Help Narrowing Down Fronts For HT and Music

328 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  teachsac
Yeah, I know. Another Help me choose thread. I have done a lot of reading, but unfortunately not any place to listen to much, so if I can narrow it down, I can make the 3 hour trip into the city. I am looking for tower fronts and a center. I will be doing a mix of TV/movies and 2 channel music. Driven by a Parasound amp.

I have listened to:

Paradigm: Listened in detail to the Prestige 85's and Signature 6. I liked the Prestige, but really preferred the Signatures.

Sonus Faber: I listened to the Venere 2.5 (no 3). I liked them, but don't remember too much else.

B&W: Hated the CM series. Liked the Diamonds, but preferred the Paradigm.

Golden Ear and Martin Logan: Didn't like either of these.

Narrowed down to these. Most are in the same price range, so that is not a concern.

1. Wharfdale:

Wharfedale - Jade 7 Floorstanding Speakers
Wharfedale - Jade C2 Center Channel Speaker

2. Focal:

Focal - Aria 926 Floorstanding Speakers
Focal - Aria CC900 Center Channel

3. Sonus Faber
Sonus Faber Venere 3.0 Floorstanding
Sonus Faber Venere Center:

4. Paradigm:

Paradigm - Prestige 85F
Pardigm - Prestige 55C

Advice, or other suggestions? I need to research and map out a route.

Thanks,

S~

If you liked the Signatures, I'd advise you to listen to Adam Audio Pencils or Columns.............but hard to find or demo

Triad Gold Monitors are much, much better than anything Paradigm offers.

I've heard Aerial 9's so maybe 7T's would be worth your effort......................Aerial 20T V2's were on top of my list.

Since your listening is mostly 2 channel, I'd advise looking at ribbon or AMT type tweeter implementation................................

To be honest, I traveled up and down West Coast from Seattle to San Diego looking for speakers for my theater.............................heard over 60 different products before I settled. My decision was based mostly for theater rather than 2 channel listening, but had a chance to hear many speakers which helped me learn what's out there. What I learned over that 2-1/2 year period, room played a bigger part in what I was hearing than the actual speakers. I heard average speakers in well treated rooms which helped change my way of thinking...........................

A great speaker in an average room falls short.......................but place that very same speaker in a well thought out acoustically designed room, sound will be exceptional. Food for thought.................

Thanks,

I'll look into those. Don't get me wrong, HT is very important. I like to listen to music, too.
