Hi,

I recently got a Niles ZR-4630 with 6 keypads used. I tested all the zones and controls a month or so back to be sure everything worked (it did) I bought Belden 16/2 CL3 speaker cable for the runs to the rooms. (2 to each for 2 channel stereo audio) Got my office speakers cut in and wired, that worked great until one speaker got pulled on in the attic until the wire came off, re-connected that one and I was back in business.

Now for the weird stuff...

My best friend and I pulled two brand new runs to the master bedroom speaker locations. About a 60ft run of cable to each (home run remember) And we had weak audio on one speaker for a about 30 seconds before it went, the other never produced anything. These were used speakers, but I have tested them up at the Niles receiver without issue, they sound fine, no noticeable blown caps or anything. Thinking that even though we were careful not to kink a cable, it still could of happened, I pulled a new run to the one speaker to test with and still got nothing. The wire is not parallel to any 110v lines, only a gas and water pipe, but only for about 25ft, and cable was tested on the floor before pulling into the wall.

These are the speakers in question. Any help as to what to think would be great, I am about nuts trying to figure this out...

Thanks

The wire should be pretty easy to test. Twist the ends together at one end and then check with a continuity tester at the other.

I am going to check resistance tonight as well. This is really puzzling to me. The other thing it could be, is that the Niles easy clips do not bite down on 16 gauge wire well, but I thought 14 was overkill for my application and length of the runs.

I had a similar problem when i was putting in my Russound system. It turns out that those spring loaded clips are kind of touchy on the speakers (mine were Russound speakers.) After playing with them I realized that they don't always grip all the way and I had to wiggle the wire a little to get it completely engaged. Another issue I had was the wire wasn't stripped long enough so that the pressure plate was making contact with the insulation and not the copper. Since you have run another speaker wire already, it's highly unlikely (although possible) that you would have two runs of bad wire. Also, I am assuming you checked this, but is it possible that some wires got crossed somehow during the hookup?

I got it, loose in the special Niles connector. Stripped the wire down, then used the easy on connectors from Niles, now everything is working great, finally cleaned up the mess

Thanks all for ideas
