I have a Denon AVR-3200 Dolby Digital Receiver, and it has been working

great for me until yesterday. I just had HDTV digital cable installed and

the Comcast Motorola DCT-5100 HDTV cable box has digital coax and optical

outputs for Dolby Digital sound. The digital sound works for the lower

"analog" channels, but when I switch to a digital, HDTV, or premium channelsthe error/overload light on the front of the receiver lights red, and I getno sound. Comcast has tried every setting they know, and they brought a cheap old Sony receiver in, and it works on all the channels off of the digital input without problem. My Denon can play DVD, CD, and even my Replaytv off of digital inputs (optical or coax) without problem. Do you

have any suggestions on how I could fix this, or if there is a known

incompatibility with this cable box?

Overview

Denon AVR-3200 connected to Motorola DCT-5100 via Digital Coax or Optical link.

When a digital channel is tuned in on the cable box I get no sound.

The display lights are:

Dolby Surround solid lit green

Digital input solid lit green

Standby solid lit red

Error/Overload solid lit red

I have tried a number of different speaker settings, and switching the input

from optical to coax. I have also switched the cables to my DVD player, and

I got Dolby Digital sound without changing any settings. Since the Sony

works, it really appears to be an issue with the receiver, and not the cable

box. Also the cable tech told me the house he worked on after mine had a

Denon AVR-3803 (?) and it worked without issue. Any Ideas?

I use to have a 3200, but since have replaced it with a 5803....I had this same problem - it is a known denon bug - it is definitely the 3200. If you switch to a dd channel, when it errors out on you - you just manually hit the digital/analog button and you will receive the dd signal.......the problem is that you have to do this everytime you switch to a dd signal - big pain in the butt

fyi....I only had the problem with my hughes e86 sat receiver and not my

tivo, so it is hit or miss....I have no problems with my e86 now with the 5803.

If anyone else is having this problem:

I never found a solution, but when I had comcast upgrade my cable box from the Motorola 5100 to the 6200 the Dolby Digital sound worked without any problems. So my advice is if you have this issue, try to convince your cable company to give you a newer box.
