I'm new here on AVS forums, so first first elloo everybody! :)

I'm needing help in choosing a receiver.  I'm a complete noob and this is the first time I'm in the market to purchase on.  Any receiver I've used has been a hand me down from a family member.  My current receiver is a Yamaha RX-V530.  My speakers are a pair of Klipsch RB-3 Bookshelf's, Klipsch Syngery C1, and a pair of Advent Heritage's (re foamed).  I don't have a sub, currently in the market for one as well.  I recently just got my Advent's.  I had a pair of DCM's for my rear and now they're being replaced by my RB-3's.  I'm sure they're not all the best match up's together but its what I have.  The main reason of wanting/needing a new receiver is the need of HDMI ports.  Right now the only thing I can run on my setup is my PS3 and that's only because I'm lucky the PS3 has an Optical port.

I'm looking more for great sound quality rather then pack full of features (things like Pandora and Internet Apps).  Action movies and playing music are my key target demographic.  I like to play viny's but will probably eventually find something from the late 70s or early 80's for that.  I would like it to handle up converting well.  Older models or even used if that much older is fine with me as well, aka eBay.  My price range is $400 to $500, but willing to go around $600 if its really worth it.  But like I said I'm a noob when it comes to receivers, like being able to connect two to each other and one acting as an amp.  Have no clue how to go about that and what benefits you get from that, etc etc.  But any suggestions is greatly appreciated.  It seems its really hard to find good information or reviews on receivers.  And the ones I find don't focus on sound quality but rather griping how it looked or griping/praising its App features.  (That's what a roku box and etc is for).

Thanks!

I'm not certain this will work for you, but the Pioneer Elite SC-05 can be found on ebay for your price range and the sound quality is simply wonderful. There are only 4 HDMI inputs and one output and I don't think it works with 3D (not certain about this, as I do not have a 3D TV). It is ancient as receivers go, but musically and 2D movies work exceptionally well. It weighs over 40 lbs and is kind of large, but I love mine.
