So, like when looking for a car to buy, you've told us what sort of roads you like to drive on and what your budget is, and some aesthetic/space constraints, which is a good start.
How loud, for how many people? Do you want to get closer to good commercial cinema dynamics?
Usually people starting out underestimate the importance of
mid-bass (the need for larger more capable drivers for handling bass that the subwoofer won't handle),
sensitivity (so that the speakers don't need 400 watts of power for when you want to crank an action movie),
a good center speaker (where, you know, most of the sound comes out of),
and a good subwoofer (an eight inch driver in a sub is great for...romantic comedies. It takes larger drivers and hundreds+ of watts to start to get good bass for movies).
That said, I'd consider a package from Hsu, since they make well-regarded subs, and their speakers have fairly good sensitivity: http://hsuresearch.com/products/enthusiast2.htm l
