Help needed wiring patio speakers in new construction home

My builder is pre-wiring all speakers in my new house under construction.

7.1 pre-wire in Media Room. It also has Coax and Cat6 data going to one tech panel closet
7.1 pre-wire in Family Room. It also has Coax and Cat6 data going to one tech panel closet
2 speaker wires in Patio. Both wires come together and one wire goes to the tech panel closet. It has It also has Coax and Cat6 data going to one tech panel closet

My goal is to have whole-house speakers (including patio) combined to have single source of music. Is this wiring done correctly? If not, what changes do I need to ask the builder before they install sheet rock.

What type of device should I buy and install in the tech panel closet to provide single source of audio (and possible video as well since I plan to have wall mount TVs in all 3 locations)? I am not an AV expert by any means, so need experts opinion on this setup.

NOTE: Tech panel is installed in one of the bed room closet on the 2nd floor.

Thanks in advance!

Whenever I pull wire ( speaker / cat6x / RGB6 etc) I always pull spare wires. Not sure why your tech is combining the patio speaker wire into one wire. I would make sure I was using the best quality wire I could find. It will be considerably cheaper in the long run.

Congrats on the new house - there is more than one method to achieve your end state. there are more data we would need to help you. Which receiver(s) do you plan on getting for your 2 x 7.1 rooms? The other issue is where/how they are terminating the speaker wires in those rooms. are you planning in wall / ceiling speakers? or floor standers / bookshelf, etc? do you want individual zone control; programming as well as volume? how do you plan on wiring to your subs for each of the theater zones - you may need to run baluns ( RCA to cat 5/6)

I suggest you look at Denon or Yamaha receivers the HEOS(denon) or Musicast(Yamaha) systems should do you well.

in so far as the patio speakers go - need more info on what was pulled - the builder may have used a 4 conductor cable to get from the tech panel to the patio and then split into 2 x 2 conductors cable. if so , no worries.

Don't forget about your network and WiFi - while he is pulling the CAT 6, be thinking about where desks will be - use wired , or at least have them there if needed. , as well as strategically placing access points - which should be wired back to your main closet. mesh systems are always an option, but some of the better systems can do both; mesh and wired. look into Ubiquiti Unify system. or TP link Omada. lots of videos on youtube...worth the time to educate.

as previously mentioned, while the walls are open it is cheap to run extra wires, even if you don't use them for years.

I ran an extra set of mains ( L,R) - this allows me to demo speakers without un plugging the mains speakers.

good luck rock on

I already have Denon AVR-X4500H (AVR-X4500H) that I plan to use in my 7.1 Family Room setup. I will plan something similar for the media room.

Both Media and Family room speaker wires come together in the front wall of the room when I can plug them in to my receiver. Those speaker wires don't go to my 2nd floor bed room closet located tech panel. I plan to have Klipsch ATMOS front floor speakers in Media and all other speakers in Media and Family will be bookshelf/wall speakers. No in-wall speakers in these two rooms. Yes, I want individual zone control, programming and volume. Both Media and Family has its own subwoofer drop added so no worries for that.
FYI, Both media and family room has Cat6 and Coax drop which goes to the tech panel.

I am not an expert in wiring, so I have attached a picture of how two blue colored speaker wires from patio come together inside the house and then one white colored wire goes up to the tec panel. Hope this may give you some clarity. Let me know if you need more detail for this.
FYI, I plan to install in-ceiling speakers in the patio (not decided which make and model yet).

Yes, builder has done a good job in adding WAP as a standard package with the home. So I have got 3 access points installed at different locations inside the house and also added various Cat6 drops to make sure I have wired internet where I needed for office or personal PC work. Thanks a lot for looking beyond and providing the suggestion!

hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like the white cable is 4 conductor and the blue is 2 conductor.

otherwise you are in good shape. your 4700 will drive that 3rd zone no problem. however, if you want independent control, might be good to get a HEOS link and put it into an open input on the 4700

Thanks a lot once again. I did hand draw a picture of wiring between tech panel and media/family/patio speakers. Hopefully this may give you a better idea.

Basically, I want all three rooms to play same music when I want. Or play same music in family and patio speakers.

Question:
Do you think I should relocate patio speaker wire from tech panel and move it to family room speakers location? I want both 7.1 family speakers and 2 patio speakers can play same music.
Can I simply hook-up two in-ceiling speakers to Denon x4500 zone 2 ports and no need to but HEOS link since AVR comes with HEOS? Will AVR allow to play same music in main zone and zone-2?

Thanks in avance!

Diagram helps. The question(s) is(are): how do you plan on sending the signal to the patio speakers? where to you plan on placing the AVRs? but to answer your question: yes, you can use the zone 2 speakers( onboard amps) to drive the patio speakers, but you'll need to place the AVR in the tech closet. If not placing the AVR there, then you'll need 4 conductors to get from the AVR location back to the tech closet.

insofar as playing the same program in the 2 zones. the 4700 can do it ( assuming you have the physical connectivity) or HEOS can do it with an additional HEOS capable device( HEOS AMP or HEOS link with outboard amp, or another HEOS enabled receiver).

The reason I suggested the additional HEOS link was to enable different streaming sources in each zone if they are both being fed from the same receiver.

I plan on putting AVRs only in Family room and Media Room. (Don’t want to use tech panel for AVR at all)
So based on your suggestion, it totally makes sense to ask mu builder to relocate patio speaker wires from tech panel. I should ask builder to locate patio speaker wires to Family room where I will have HEOS 4500 AVR installed, so I can easily drive zone 2 for patio speakers.

I have noticed you kept referring to 4700 AVR but I do own 4500 model. From 4500 spec, it comes with HEOS so should be fine for 4500 as well, correct?
I may invest in HEOS link as well if I see the need to drive two different streams from same AVR.

I sincerely appreciate your help. Your inputs on this has helped me tremendously and salute your patience answering my questions thoroughly. AVS forum has never disappointed me for any help especially with people like you are around to help other noob like me.

oops. 4500. it will do you well. you probably don't need to have your builder re-wire the patio speakers. All you need is another run from the tech closet to the family room ( 4 conductors). Glad I could help.

Congrats on the new house. enjoy. rock on
