help - outlaw 2200s or Sunfire 7x200

776 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  neekos
I'm torn. I'm looking at the Outlaw 2200's ($1800 new) or the Sunfire Cinema 200x7 b-stock ($1800).

I'm also considering biting the bullet and buying a used Sunfire Signature 400x7 ($2500).

I'm running: Avalon Symbol front, Avalon NP center, KEF in-ceilings. All are 4 ohm, around 86-88 sensitivity.

The room is about 15x30, but "open" with kitchen and everything.

Can anyone help with some direction? I just want to set this up right. I'm still waiting to buy a pre-amp.

Thanks for any input,

I have the Sunfire amp you are looking at and recommend it highly. Very powerful, runs cool, and sounds great. I am using a Yamaha receiver as a pre/pro (for now), and the Sunfire amp definitely improved the sound quality.
All three are good amps, and none of them are bad at all. But if you are driving 4ohm speakers, then the Sunfires have a advantage of being stronger with 4ohm loads than the Outlaw.

Even though the Sunfire 200x7 and the Outlaw 2200 are both rated for 200wpc at 8ohms. The 200x7 Sunfire amp is much better into 4ohm loads than the Outlaw is. The Sunfire is rated at 400wpc @ 4ohms, and the Outlaw is rated for 300wpc @ 4ohms. And the Sunfire is even rated to drive 800 watts rms per channel into two ohms - time- limited basis. Also the Sunfires are some of the coolest running high powered amps that are made.

And the 400x7 Sunfire more less doubles it's "underling" 200x7, everywhere.

400 watts rms continuous per channel, all channels driven into eight ohms from 20Hz to 20kHz with no more than 0.5% T.H.D.

800 watts rms per channel into four ohms

1600 watts rms per channel into two ohms - time-limited basis

If it was me, and the price was right. I'd jump on the 400x7 as the first choice.

(and at the price that you listed for it as a B-stock, is definitely a "right" kinda price for that much power.)

2nd choice would be the 200xi7.

And the 3rd choice would be the Outlaw.

Id spend the extra and get it over with , you'll probably save money on the long run too.

Even if you spent $3K on one I think you still could save some over the long run.
do you know if the amp has a toroidal? I know the earlier signature versions did not, while the original did back in tha late 90's.
