My Panasonic DVD-RP91 quit playing DVD's. In one night, it started skipping DVD's, then quit playing them all together. It still plays CD's fine. When I try to play a DVD, it displays "Read..." for several minutes, then displays "No Play". It also has displayed an "H05" error, and a message that the DVD type is incompatible (for any DVD). These are store-bought DVD's that play fine on other players.

I tried the followng, but have the same symptoms after each of these steps:

- Opened player and cleaned lens area with air from a camera puffer.

- Successfully used "reset" sequence described in AVSForum posts

- Successfully installed latest firmware I could find (v 2.62)

- looked for crispy components/smell of smoke. None seen (or smelled).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. It would also be helpful if there were some diagnostic routines that could be run and/or a pointer to the service manual.

In the event that you think this player is toasted, any suggestions for a new player under US$600 would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe
