I am looking for some recommendations. I have some really nice HT gear, but I don't have a dedicated theater room. I use my family room for my system comprised of mainly:

Sammy HL-S6187

Martin Logan Ascents, Cinema, Scripts, and Descent

Anthem AVM-50

B&K Reference 200.5

Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray

Cambridge Audio Azur 640H Music Server

PS Audio Power Director 4.7

As you can see from the link in my signature, I kind of have a boring oriental theme going now (I was stationed in Okinawa Japan). The walls are still white. I am trying to get ideas for some deco tips and some wall color ideas, even different wall treatments (i.e.....different color on bottom half of wall, etc...)

So, what do you all think??

Thanks for your input.

For design ideas check out the various theater threads. There have to be thousands of photos should with all sorts of designs and color schemes. If that doesn't spark your creative juices, I'm not sure what will. Otherwise I think most of the folks around here would be happy to answer any specific questions you may have when it come to construction issues.

OK, let's first get rid of the white walls and ceilings. I think dark red walls and a dark grey ceiling would look nice.

Next, nothing against your TV, but it is time to increase your size. You could easily fit a 92" screen on that wall. Time for front projection!

Next, you have some really nice equipment. However, I don't want to see it. Let's build a proscenium to hide the speakers/sub and frame your new screen. We can use black Guilford of Maine fabric to cover the proscenium, which will look really sweet with the red and grey walls.

Let's see, where could we move the AV equipment? Do you have a closet near by? Are you willing to cut some hole in the sheet rock? An out-of-site, or at least out-of-line-of-vision AV closet would be great. Do you use the fireplace? Not sure if it would work, but I think an AV fireplace would be really cool. Instead of flames, you would have the lights on you equipment burning in there. Also, no need to worry about venting your equipment, if you know what I mean.

Humm, what are the dimensions for this room? Could we fit another row of seating? If so, let's build a riser for the second row?

Next, acoustical treatments. At a minimum we are going to need some acoustic panels at the early reflection points. You can build your own panels, or buy some on line.

How far are you willing to go, my friend?

(Don't take anything I say too seriously, but as you can see, the sky is the limit. If you have more specific questions, the people in this forum can provide a wealth of information. Just let us know what you ultimate goal is for the room.)

The ultimate goal of this room is to make it look more "theater" like with any construction or changing of equipment. I'm speaking of only wall treatments (paint of course being the main thing), and any theater decorative tips.

Also keep in mind that this room is connected to a breakfast nook/kitchen.....so I need to keep a conservative color palatte.

None of the current wall hangings/decor need to stay in this room.

I see. Ok, first I would start with the color scheme. Take a look at some of the construction thread and you will see all sorts of examples, from red to purple to black. In general, a darker color is going to work better to create that theater atmosphere. What ever color you choose, consider doing a similar, yet lighter shade for the ceiling. What about the carpet? Would you consider a darker color?

Also, consider carrying the color you choose into the adjacent rooms so the theater doesn't look drastically different.

BTW, north carolina wolfpack or nevada wolfpack? Class of '93 NCSU right here.
