Help please. Samsung HLS-6187WX or Mitsubishi WD-65731

580 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  bigbsezwazup
I need help with a decision between the Samsung HLS-6187WX 1080p or Mitsubishi WD-65731 1080p, both are DLP. I play games using Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, PS3(Future), Xbox, Xbox360, and Wii(Future). All systems range from 480i to 1080p. The Samsung has less inches, but is a few hundred $ more and newer model. Which TV should I go with considering I have to make a decision by 10am CST Friday 09/28/06. Please Help and thank you everyone for your help.

Any help? Thanks in advance.
first the sammy is a lot cheaper.

second the mits is a newer model(2007 model)

i have the 65732 (upgraded version of the 731) and love it.

either tv will fit your needs like a glove
Not sure why the deadline or limiting it to just those two TV's. In my judgment, consider the 65732 for about the same money as the sammy. The blacks are better. The HLS6187 and 65732 (and 65731) are both superior sets. I have stared at them, side by side, a lot. Hard to choose between them. You will be happy with either.

Personally I finally chose the 65831, but the Sammy was my first choice for quite a while. Tough decision.

Enjoy.
Again thanks everyone. SailorKane, I have a deadline because I have already purchased the Mitsubishi WD-65731 and it will be delivered on Saturday 9/30/06. I just recently found out about gaming lag and after talking to the sales associate I have until that deadline to switch to the Samsung HL-S6187W and still get a tv delivered on Saturday. I have also looked at the Hitachi 65F59 that is a CRT, but CRT's will be gone after this year as Hitachi is the only company left making them. Thanks again.
I was torn between the 6187 and the 65732 for some time. I chose the 65732 for a few reasons, I just felt that it had the better picture, plus the Sammy has a reputation for needing a professional calibration to compete with the other sets (about $500). The 732 cost about $250 more than I could have gotten the 6187 for. So far, the set is awesome. Honestly, though, there probably isn't a bad choice.
In actuality, the Samsung will be $300 more than the Mitsubishi. I hope I can make an educated decision. I normally do my research on things like this, but this offer caught me of guard.

I believe this is a major misinterpretation of the facts. Out of the box the Mits is brighter although the Sammy is brighter than it should be. The Sammy can be adjusted to an almost perfect grayscale while they Mitsubishi can't. If you need ultimate brightness then go with Mits, if you need good brightness than either would work. If you want perfect colors then get a Sammy and have it calibrated.

P.S. That's just a layman's opinion, would love to hear the experts to weigh in on this.

P.P.S. It's almost impossible to tell much in the store, I know at the Best Buy near work whichever TV is in a certain spot looks the best. The rotate TV's in an dout of the spot on almost a weekly basis and right now the Toshiba sitting there looks better than the Sammy, Sny or Mitsubishi. However all those TVs have had their turn in the coveted spot and when they were there they blew away the competition. These TV's are all adjacent so it's not the lighting but the signal to that spot must be significant superior to the signal the other spots get.

I suggest you do more research, I highly doubt it's less than the 6187 is selling for from a couple of major online retailers right now.
Grond, Conn's here in TX is where I'm purchasing from and they have both TV's. The Mitsubishi is 2900 and the Samsung is 3200. The Mitsubishi is on sale and even comes with a free Xbox360 Core, even though I have the Xbox360 Premium. The Mitsubishi gets delivered tomorrow.
