Hey,
I wrote the JP1 files for the RM1271. When I first did this I still prefered to use the original remote because it's hard to organize the buttons on a learning remote in a way that makes since. But.. Now I prefer to use my learing remote. My OFA Cinema 7 has all the buttons from the RM1271 mapped to it (even the codes for what happed when you press two buttons on the old remote at once in the 2 cases where that applies.) My Cinema 7 has a more powerfull IR blaster in it and it's far more ergonomical (it's not rectangular and heavy like the Sony Remote.)
That's not to say I don't like having the original remote. I would get one If possible.
The onboard controller shouldn't have the battery connnections and so on. It usually lacks these so maybe you have a remote in place of an on board controller. Sometimes it's possible to open one of these things up and operate a bit but it's risky (though at this point you have little to lose with this one in particular.)
I think that C R T cinema used to sell the remotes for these for under $100. They have been sold recently and the sale seems to have changed thier direction and focus a bit but they may still have them. If you haven't asked Curt Palme I would start there. Once you have done bussiness with him you may have my opinion that it's best not to pass up a chance to support him. He puts in countless effort supporting us here in this forum.
THanks and Good LUck,
Brian
