HELP: Sony 1271Q - buttons don't work, may need remote

207 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Brian Hampton
Help!! Several of the buttons on the control of my 1271Q don't work. (contrast down, blank G, etc). I removed the control panel (really just a remote commander) and cleaned all of the contacts - but no dice. I really don't know if it is the buttons, a wire, or a board. Either way - I really need to get to these buttons to do a correct convergence (they used to work, so I was at least able to converge once). Heck, I can't even turn the contrast down and it's stuck at 80. ( I can go up but not down)

So I guess these are my options:

Buy a Service RM1271 - but I can't find one anywhere - even on eBay. The proj is floor mounted so I would be very happy with just a wired remote. - anybody go a spare?

Program a remote (radio shack?) to emulate a RM1271 (can you really converge with one of these deals?)

Anyone got a parts 1271 with a control panel that works?

Thanks!

Hey,

I wrote the JP1 files for the RM1271. When I first did this I still prefered to use the original remote because it's hard to organize the buttons on a learning remote in a way that makes since. But.. Now I prefer to use my learing remote. My OFA Cinema 7 has all the buttons from the RM1271 mapped to it (even the codes for what happed when you press two buttons on the old remote at once in the 2 cases where that applies.) My Cinema 7 has a more powerfull IR blaster in it and it's far more ergonomical (it's not rectangular and heavy like the Sony Remote.)

That's not to say I don't like having the original remote. I would get one If possible.

The onboard controller shouldn't have the battery connnections and so on. It usually lacks these so maybe you have a remote in place of an on board controller. Sometimes it's possible to open one of these things up and operate a bit but it's risky (though at this point you have little to lose with this one in particular.)

I think that C R T cinema used to sell the remotes for these for under $100. They have been sold recently and the sale seems to have changed thier direction and focus a bit but they may still have them. If you haven't asked Curt Palme I would start there. Once you have done bussiness with him you may have my opinion that it's best not to pass up a chance to support him. He puts in countless effort supporting us here in this forum.

THanks and Good LUck,

If I use a programmable remote, I still need ALL of the buttons of the Service- style RM-1271. I'm not sure how that will work, since there are a LOT of buttons.

I just have the normal control panel. It's not a hacked remote - I just mean that it looks similiar to the RM1271. I was planning on doing a cheapy wire remote with it (use a 9-pin extention) but since it isn't working I didn't bother.

How do I contact Curt?
Nevermind, found it. I send ********* and Curt emails. Thanks for the leads!
I found one day several buttons on my remote had quit. The remote is abit flimsy on the 12xx series, so I took a look inside and found two broken traces. Did a repair and now all is good.

Hey,

I use a One For All cinema 7 and all the buttons fit just fine. There were even some buttons that aren't on the remote itself. For example I think you hold down right and left sometimes to reset stuff and when you hold down right and left it generated a different code so it's like a different button. Also, I think I have a button for Center Green whereas on the original controller you need to hold down center Red and center Blue at the same time.

There's a lot of buttons but there's lots of buttons on some learing remotes and with JP1 you don't have to learn the commands you can just download a custom device. I made the RM1271 device code 1271 on my remote.

Like I said.. Sometimes a remote or controller can be fixed and I also like having the original remote and the on board controller too (It's just fun that have that sort of thing somehow.)

Anyway, Good Luck,

Brian
