So I'm looking to run some speaker black and red bare wires in wall.

My question is about the wall plate.

I've seen different takes when it come to wall plates and I'm wondering if

one approach is better than the other or if it comes down to preference?

My first thought was going with a 5.1 wall plate as it has the "professional" look.

But...

The gang low voltage and single hole wall plates will work just as good.

So, is one way better than the other or does it just come down to the look you like?

Just the look you want. A hole plate avoids a whole bunch of extra connections which can be a failure/reliability point. If you want the neat look of having speaker jacks there then you can go that route. Cheaper just to use a hole plate though...

I installed the post connectors in my HT but in the end, I probably should have just put in blank wall plates. Either method has speaker wires traveling to the wall. The binding posts do look more "pro" but they also call more attention to themselves.

I wouldn't worry about the connection failure aspect, its not like these parts are moving...
