First time post after spending the last week reading through and trying to digest other similar threads. Building a new house with a dedicated media room and I definitely need help picking out a 5.1 set up including AVR. The specs are:

room: 15 x 15, 10 foot ceilings, carpeted

budget: 7500-10 k including speakers and AVR

Media room is otherwise setup with projector/screen/etc. Just really need help with the speakers as about my listening needs will be 80% movies/sporting events and 20% music. Thanks so much.

Welcome!

Is the room built... as in wired and framed and drywalled, or in the planning stages? 15x15 is going to give you some real acoustic headaches to deal with. A rectangular room is better suited. Are you making this a dedicated theater space or is the media place an open, trafficked "living area?"

Do you care if the surround speakers are wall mountable or not? Would you consider a full 7.1 surround set up?

Are you near a Costco warehouse? Some stores have a great deal ($599) on the Pioneer SC 1522k receiver, (9.2 channels, with pre-amp outs) but you have to call around (not on the website)... and move fast if there is any stock.

In a 5.1 configuration:

Here's a mix of an Emotiva XPA-5 200 watt x 5 amp, plus speakers by Ascend Acoustics (Two matte black Sierra Towers with NrT tweeters, One Sierra Horizon Center with NrT tweeter, Two gloss black Sierra-1 monitors with NrT tweeters upgrade--to match Tower's tweeters--for side surrounds), and One black Rythmik FV15HP 15" ported subwoofer with 600 watt amp. $6,107 + shipping (includes package and 5% sub discount -- sub discount is if you buy the Rythmik from Ascend rather than through Rythmik directly) .

Now all you need is a pre-amp/processor or receiver with full pre-amp audio outputs (like the Pioneer 1522k, if you can snag one). If you do go 7.1, then add an XPA-2 amp (for the front left/right) and another pair of Sierra-1 monitors with NrT tweeters.

If you feel like you can comfortably keep the budget in the up to $10,000 range... then add a second Rythmik FV15HP to even out the bass response in the room (you'll get 10% off instead). You won't be sorry.

You'll be in 7th Heaven.
