My setup:

Toshiba 52HMX84

Denon 2910 dvd player

Motorola 5100 cable box

PS2

Tivo


Now my question is, what kind of cables are worth paying for and what arnt? Is it worth getting a $200 hdmi cable to go between the dvd player and set? What about for the cable box? Worth getting the PS2 component connection, or just sticking with composite? I would like to keep my cable budget under $200, but Im willing to go higher if its worth it...


Also, does anyone know if the 5100 has rs232 for my tivo?

People need lengths of cables to recommend for one thing.

Short hdmi cables you shouldn't worry about much. PS2, no idea. Wouldn't spend much.

"Cheap" cables tend to have the same problems as most "cheap" stuff.

Maybe me and DMF are stuck in semantics, here, but you get the idea.

Right, so basically pay enuf to ensure good build quality, but dont go over the top? The phrase "best inexpensive cable" seems to be oxymoronic...

Ive seen 2 meter lengths of hdmi for as low as 50 bucks, and as high as 500...

If you have enough component inputs - go for component, it's much, much, much better than composite. About cables: for short run (like 6 feet) I'd say rule of thumb is that any cable considerably thicker than $1 cables (seen in $.99 stores and typically included with equipment, like DVD players or HTIB) will do.

Absolutely, yes...but it doesn't have to be an expensive one. I have the most inexpensive component cable I could find coming out of my PS2. Definitely worth it b/c some games (SOCOM2, for instance) support progressive scan and there is a HUGE PQ improvement.

Not really. Paying a lot for a short hdmi cable is silly. Paying a bit more for one that is more than the equivelent of the stuff that comes free with most cheap a/v equipmint is probably worthwhile.
