I have an old Pioneer VSX 9500S receiver just bought at yard sale. The problem is I don't know how to hook anything up to it. I want to hook up a CD player and an MP3/ I pod for use in the garage. What are the best connections for both? P.S. not to be used as home theater. Mike

Cd player=rca style single digital cable or optical toslink.

Mp3 Player/ipod=usb or rca left & right through a dock

The CD player has the optical digital out and receiver has optical digital in so I'll buy the cable and connect that way. What RCA jack do I plug into on the receiver to run the MP3/I pod? Phono , tape 1or2, CD, AUX

Sweet! Thanks for the help. This 5.1 receiver also has the jumpers in the back. 2 for the front left and right speakers and 2 for the rear left and right speakers and 1 for the center speaker. does this mean I can pull the jumpers out and connect 1 amp to power the front left and right speakers 1 amp to power the rear left and right speakers and another amp for the center speaker? ( I would use that one for a sub if I could)
