Mmmh, can't get it to work...

Have installed a Falcon capture card.

I am connecting the Arcam integrated amplifier AVR100 composite out (no doubts is working, as it displays on my TV) to the composite in of the Falcon.

Have installed Dscaler and rebooted several times with no result.

No video Signal found.

Drivers

- Falcon: downloaded from website, they are Windows 2000 drivers, and I am using Windows XP

-Dscaler: latest version

PS I use as a videocard an ATI All In Wonder... could this be part of the problem?

Any suggestions?

Hi Gnollo:

___I am sure a DScaler team member will be around here soon to help because I am not at all familiar with the Falcon but in the mean time, this thread may help. As far as the drivers are concerned, DScaler doesn’t need any drivers installed since DScaler acts as a driver all inclusive.

Double check that you have the correct video input selected.

Settings->Video Input->Composite

Also under "Hardware", select "Setup Hardware..." and try:

Card - Standard BT878

Tuner - No Tuner

I hope this helps,

Just checked...

no luck.

I also tried to connect the same composite cable to the ATI AIW, and I get picture no problem, with PAL-I...

Any ideas?

I am lost, will try perhaps removing the ATI AIW, and using my old TNT2, to see if that could cause the problem... if you have any suggestions, please give us a scream!

I have managed to use one of the software tools that come with the IDS-Falcon card, called IDS-Demo.

I could test succesfully that on Comp-1, I was getting picture through the Falcon.

Still no luck whatsover with Dscaler.

I even tried to run a beta version of Dscaler: still "no video signal found" displayed in the status bar.

I am pretty sure the card works, as I can see the video signal on one of the applications that came with the card.

Now it can be one of three things, as others have reported Dscaler working on their setups with the Falcon

- it doesn't work when you have an ATI AIW Radeon and a Falcon in the same setup (will test that later) on my Windows 2000 setup (I have a double boot option)

- it doesn't work with Windows XP

- must be something else.... ;)

Hope anyone can help me to shed some light... at the moment I am still using the ATI AIW... I spent 220$ on the Falcon, and I would be MAJORLY pi**ed off if I can't get it to work with Dscaler...

You gotta love tweaking, don't ya!

I've never used an ATI AIW Radeon so I can only make a guess. Perhaps there is some conflict with the AIW tuner/capture device. Have you tried going to the Device Manager and disabling all the drivers related to the ATI cards tuner/capture device? Perhaps dScaler is trying to access the ATI card instead of the Falcon card.

I desabled any other driver with ATI rather than the display driver.

No luck (see attached picture for list of drivers).

I'm going to install the old TNT2 to see if that works.

Well, as I am planning to build a new HTPC (waiting for the DIGN case...;)), I need another video card... so I am going out to get a Radeon 7500, no broken gamma, and double monitor interface, one for my CRT screen and one for the projector... et voila'...

So I will uninstall my ATI Radeon AIW, and see if that was the reason Dscaler wasn't working (better be....)

Alright, now is time to panic!

Uninstalled ATI AIW Radeon as suggested step by step in the guide below:
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...eadid=33606840

Installed the ATI Radeon 7500 Dual Head

No problems whatsoever, OS displays on two screens (PJ and Monitor), and I can play DVD and avi no problem.

Dscaler? No chance, the background was blue before, and now is black... Still no problem getting picture on one of the software tools that come with the IDS-Falcon card, called IDS-Demo.

I could test succesfully that on Comp-1, I was getting picture through the Falcon.

Is anyone using Windows XP and Dscaler on a Falcon setup?

Please tell me it really works!

Gnollo -

I don't know anything about the Falcon card but for some cards the video input selections of DScaler have occasionally been messed up. Try selecting the various other inputs. Also double check the video format (Pal/NSC).

The AIW card should not be a problem.

It would probably be best to see what settings other Falcon users have tried successfully, even if it requires another post with a more specific topic.

If all this fails you might also post the question to the DScaler list, through SourceForge.

I will try sistematically all video input selections, in combination with the video format combinations

Do I have to restart Descaler for the changes to take effect?

I will also install it under Win2K to see if it works, later on tonight.

I guess that Falcon cards are not widely used in XP, as I haven't really had any replies to my posts from users, (unless JamesAB has a Falcon in his setup).

Mmmmh, now I wish I went for KBK's modded card: Falcon seemed the quickest solution for me... how wrong was I!

I've had the Falcon card working with Win2k and WindowsME without any difficulty. I've never tried it with XP. The only thing that I can see that might be different between our setups, is that I've never installed any of the software that came with the Falcon card. I always used The Universal Tweaked bt8x8/bt878 WDM drivers from iuLab. However I don't think you need to have any drivers loaded for dScaler to work.

Have you tried testing without any of the Falcon software loaded? Perhaps the software that comes with the Falcon card is preventing dScaler from accessing the card. Thats the only thing left I can think of.

When you launch dScaler does it do through the "Hardware Init" phase okay?

Yup. It goes through the Hardware Init phase OK.

I will unistall all of the software and see if it makes a difference.

Then I will try running dscaler in Win2K, to confirm you point (if it works on my PC in W2K, and it doesn't in XP, it can be only the OS or the install software from Falcon.

I will try now.

Installed the Universal Tweaked bt8x8/bt878 WDM drivers from iuLab, on Windows XP and 2000. No luck.

I think I am about to go crazy.

My 2000 is barebone in terms of installation (just for test).

What am I doing wrong?

I put the card in, it asks me for installation of new drivers and I take it to a specific location where I extracted The Universal Tweaked bt8x8/bt878 WDM drivers from iuLab. Then I install Dscaler. And I get no picture...

But I know there are no problems with the card, as I was able to get picture...

This is now officially depressing ...
