First post, new member, very long time browser of this forum.

Thanks to all the members for all the great info on building a HT.

The new HT is under construction, 12x18, in a basement. rough in almost done, trying to figure out the lighting.

Desired set-up is, from ceiling on down:

Rope light behind a crown molding

6 recesed spot lights in the ceiling

4 sconces lights along the the side walls, 2 each side

Would like to have at least the recesed spot light, if not all,

controled by Lutron switches, remote controled.

What do I need, and if i can get some specific part numbers.

Thanks again for all the info.

There are two remote systems by Lutron - the Spacer and The Grafik Eye. Both are featured on their website www.lutron.com

The Spacer can be used as a single dimmer or as a "system" of many dimmers ganged together. There are 3 options with Spacers- Multiganged dimmers with master and remote controls; multiganged dimmers with remote control; and combinations of dimmers with remote control. These seem to be pretty easy to install by the DIY, too.

The Grafik Eye can go from 2 zones to 6 zones with one unit. You can link up to 8 units to control up to 48 zones of lighting... oops, sorry, I am digressing... This is the more challenging to install for the DIY.

We are using a six zone Grafik Eye. It will be installed by an electrician. We wanted a little more versatility in our setup and that's why we went with the GE. You may find that the Spacer is all you need. Go to the website, do some reading, then go to your local electrical house and get the Lutron catalog that has it ALL! I learned way too much about all of the systems, but I made a much more informed decision.

Good luck - Sorry if I was too wordy (all that studying, you know!).

Thanks Pam for the reply, I will look up the Lutron site.

I think GrafikEye maybe more than what I really need, and maybe

more expensive, I dont mind spending the $, would like to keep it simple, have too many remotes as is...

Kopek,

If you want just a dimmer do the Spacer, if you want to have set scenes you need to do Spacer System. Lutron site has some good info including online suppliers. I have a similar setup as yours and went with the Spacer System, 4 of the SPS-600w. I'm still finishing up painting and such so haven't installed them yet.

It depends on where you purchase your equipment, actually. I found that the GE was not as expensive as I had originally thought, and the Spacer system would be more expensive to do what I wanted it to do, so that's part of why I went with the GE. But you need to check your local sources as well as online sources. I also looked at eBay, but I found their auction prices were getting way high - I got my setup cheaper at my local electrical house.

Hope this helps (clear as mud, right!)

Thanks PamW and Belcherwm for your inputs.

I think the Lutron Spacer will do. I wanted this to be simple enough,

so my wife could also feel comfortable with it.

Too many remotes...you get the picture.

Thanks again
