Help with inputs my plasma

1048 Views 15 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Falc0n
I have purchased a Panasonic TH-42PX80U Television.

I want to hook it up to my Dish 622 HD Receiver with the SD output which is Channel 60. I have a RG6 coax Connector for this.

I also want to hookup my OTA Antenna to this Television to receive my locals in HD. This also has a RG6 coax connector.

There is only one coax in on this Television. Can I somehow "combine" these 2 coax inputs?

I have been told you cannot manually enter a channel into this Television. You have to do a auto scan. If someone has manually entered a OTA channel on this Panasonic TH-42PX80U I would like to know how its done.

Also, I have no OTA Channels near the Channel 60 output channel that the Dish 622 Receiver uses as there output.

Thanks in advance.

That makes no sense - you want to watch an SD signal on an HDTV from an HD receiver? Can't be bothered with another Dish receiver?

The device suggested above might work. While the TV may not have manual entry for digital chs, I know of no TV on which can't enter an analog ch. (like that 60 you're looking for). Did you try it?

I knew somebody would take him to task for what he wanted to do. Maybe he wants the Dish output on the RF in for PIP ? Why second guess his desire ?

Notice I said I wanted my OTA Channels for prime time HD. Also, I am waiting on delivery of Television; Its back ordered but I have downloaded the Manual for my own learning curve. Jan.6 2009 is delivery date. It was purchased for me as a gift.

I will eventually get a HD Receiver for my bedroom but financially I need to wait a few months but thats actually none of your business right?

After googling to learn about this Television, I have read where a manual entry of OTA channels on this Television was not possible. I thought maybe someone had accomplished this on this particular forum.

You should not take a SD picture to a HD source so personal; It will be okay.

Thanks for the answer.
You are welcome. You would probably have a better shot at an answer to your second question over at the plasma display forum .

Believe it or not, I was told this would be the better atea to ask since most on the plasma thread do not use OTA Antenna.

I have read were individuals could not manually put a OTA Channel in this Television. This becomes a issue when you scan and some of your channels are 180 degrees apart. If you do a second scan the other direction, the previous channel are not retained.

I thought that maybe someone with a antenna input had manually installed a channel with this Panasonic PX80 Sereies.

Smackman,

Why do you want all of the digital SD and HD programs you receive with your HD dish receiver send to your 720p HD TV in SD 480i resollution over coax instead of in digital SD or HD over component or HDMI? Then you could use an antenna for tge OTA digital tuner in the TV.

This Television will be located approx. 80 feet(cable run) from my Dish HD Receiver. I thought that a 80 foot component cable run or a 80 FOOT HDMI cable run would not work. Am I correct?

This is a 2nd TV in my bedroom. I have a 55" Mitsubishi in the family room where the Dish HD Receiver is located.

I do not receive my locals in HD with Dish.

I do receive my locals in HD OTA.

The Antenna input is by my Receiver.

I will feed the OTA Coax and SD Output (coax) into a 2 way splitter backwards and connect my coax cable that runs to my bedroom to the input.

Temporary solution until I can afford to pay dish a 7 dollar a month fee for another HD Receiver.

Is this the only output the Dish receiver has? If it has any other outputs, why can't you use one of those with your TV? Just curious...

I think the distance between the Dish Receiver and this television is to far (approx. 80 foot) to run a component cable or HDMI CABLE.

My HDMI output is available for use.

I have my 55" Mitsubishi WS-55517 hooked up component.

The HDMI output crushes the Blacks on the Mitsubishi.

I have had my Mitsubishi professionally calibrated by CraigR.

I am open for suggestions. I am trying to avoid a 2nd HD Receiver until I can afford it and I also want to see what price increase Dish will have in Feb. 09.

I have a related input question on the TH-42PX80U. I'm not definitively finding in my online research that this unit has a coax input (for standard signal from a non-HD satellite receiver). Can anyone confirm whether this unit can accept a coax input from a receiver? May be upgrading to HD in the near future but wanted to know what can I expect when this display is delivered. Note, this is not my new TV or receiver, doing this for a parent so I'm not too familiar with current equipment.

Any help will be appreciated,

Falc0n
US TVs have always had a standard SD 480i NTSC RF input using either a 300ohm antenna or coax antenna/cable coonnector.

VCRs, STBs from Cable or Satellite companies or digital converter boxes all have matching NTSC coax output connectors since no one wants to provide a STB that can not be used with any TV.

I doubt there is any exception to this with standard consumer oriented products but there may be.
Can anyone confirm whether this unit can accept a coax input from a receiver? Yes it will.
