Help with mounting.

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning on getting the Panasonic 37" PX60u plasma, just saw it in a store and it looked great. The problem I'm having is how to mount the screen and I'd appreciate any help. Below is a photo of my wall unit with current 27" CRT:

I want to keep this wall unit, and mount the 37" in the place where the current set is, not IN the space but on the front of the unit. It would sit in front of the center unit and overlap a bit on the two side units.

Some choices I've thought of are a cantilever mount on the back wall, but I'm not sure I have the stud or two studs needed for that. Another choice would be bolting a piece of wood in the hole and mounting a wall mount on that. There is a shelf on the middle unit that overlaps 4", and the screen could rest there with some other chaining or wiring to the wall units to distribute weight. Of course, attention needs to be paid that the whole thing doesn't topple over, but the TH37PX60 is only 57 lbs., with some added weight for the mounting hardware and wood.

Again, I'd appreciate any ideas as long as you don't recommend throwing out the wall unit and getting a 50" screen (as others have on Tivo forum). ;)

Thanks in advance...

just a thought...don't forget that if you let the plasma overlap each side too much you may not be able to open the doors on the right side unit.

Very astute, clemsontiger!

We were aware of this problem, but think it will be solved by the articulating arm mount (our latest mounting idea), as we could actually move the screen to the right or left when the door needs to be opened. Also, there might be an inch or so that we could move the right unit over to prevent the problem.

Here's a photo of planned mount, articulating arm behind screen attached to wall. Most people think this is a bad idea, but I think it will work OK, even though it's unconventional.

Did you put it on an articulating arm mount? If so do you have any shots of it fully extended and what is the range of the tilt? Just curious I have a large articulated mount but its still in the box and I haven't had a chance to really look at it yet.

Cheers

Yes, a Sanus articulating. It extends another 6" from wall unit, already about 20" extended. Pretty big tilt range, but we keep it flat. It's a Sanus, you can look it up for specs. I don't have model # here at work, but will get it if you need it. No pics of mount, sorry.
