Help with new G70

I think my last thread got deleted because of mention of selling it but, I've decided to keep it. Because even if I sold it for profit now, when I want to get a high quality projector later i would just be spending more than what I Bought this one for in what as far as I know is in perfect working condition. But in order to get it to work in my room now I'm going to have to mount it vertically and bounce it off a mirror. making the stand/mount is no problem i'm good with wood. But I need to find a good rptv mirror to bounce my picture off of. Does anyone know of anywhere in northern Illinois to pick one up, or does anybody have one they're willing to part with. I also hear pretty good things about the torus DIY screen so I'll probably throw one of those together. Oh yea and I also need to get started on how to focus it.

gee now i have just finish focusing my g70 it took me 2 weeks to understand the b manual where a pro would have done it in 1 hour , but it was worth the trouble as now at least I can see the effort . but to use a mirror and bounce it off. intersting . good luck

if you give up contact me on [email protected] and your original could be workable

I've got a couple of large first-surface RPTV mirrors, but they're waaaay too heavy and fragile to ship.

If you're ever in the area (VA), let me know. And I think Pete has one of mine in his garage (in AL) from a retro.

But I'd recommend learning the focus and setup procedures with a simple table mount configuration first. Then mess with the mirror. A standard wardrobe mirror will work fine until you find a first-surface mirror. You'll notice the improvement when you eventually replace the mirror, but your focus and geometry won't change.

I've got a mirror from a Mitsubishi RPTV too.

(In case you're coming this way for bussiness or family.)
I don't see myself being in your area any time soon, but thanks anyway (clarence). I still need to figure out the best way to set up my room, to much stuff in to little of space. and brian where do you live?
I tried turning it on and going through the menus. but the picture is flipped asuming the last people who had it projected it ceiling mounted. and the remote wont work for some reason anyone know why it won't work, and i just replaced the batteries.
You have to set the pj address to 01 for the remote to work (or something along those lines) there's a read out at the back (I think).

I don't know exactly how to do it, but that'll be the problem - it's pretty common.
Thanks I think i know what you're talking about I'll go try that
Also I've been reading all these things about scalers and htpc's, what would be a good option for hooking up a dvd player, a HDTV Cable box, and the computer I already have. If there's no real benefit of the seperate dvd player then I'll eliminate the dvd player from my list of things to plug in. My computer is pretty good in the video department, I have 2 nvidia 6600GT's in SLI. which has a couple different options for video out including s-video. let me know what you guys think.
Umm, ahhh, you just bought a great big VGA monitor.

RGBHV = VGA.

S-video is the last thing you want to use ;)
i only plan to use the projector for movies, and sometimes games and television, most of the time i'll use my old tv and monitor for computing and television.
Thought I had my location in my profile,.. I'll put it back, Anyway, I'm in New Hampshire.

(too far to go for that Mirror but If someone else nearby wants it,..)
yea new hampshire a little far for me, and oh yea if anyone was curious what i got it for, since now i'm not going to sell it i paid $550.
I was watching that auction too and I even bit at one point (check the bid history if you like.)

If I hadn't bought one a few days before for $400,.. then I would have been bidding that one up too.

although i've read that this projector can display 1080 HDTV someone i was talking to today was sure that it couldn't be high def cause it's so old. and thought i was mistaken. am i mistaken?
That's funny. Do you know the G70 is almost capable of double HDTV resolution (1080p instead of 1080i)?

Your expert is clueless.
hey i never said he was an expert he's just a friend of the family. ok, so what would be a good/best set up for a dvd player, the HDTV cable box, and my computer. i've looked over curt's website and see that it looks like I want to go with the RGB cables from each going into an A,B,C swicther running to a transcoder to the projector. does anyone see a problem with this or a solution that is better but for about as much money as the switcher and transcoder would cost me? and by the way how much are transcoders and what is a recommended one. and where can i get the cables that run to the projector, at any radio shack and/or tweeter. you may laugh at my questions to yourself if i sound like a total noob.

Check the remote see if the command switch is on

check and see if status key is pressed on

MAYBE it is not switched on so using the Pj internal remote check and go to set setting and make sure the SIRC RECIEVER it switch on this enables the hand remote to work :D

Thanks gatherer but i already got the picture and remote working, sorry shoulda said something.
I've also been trying to figure out what size screen i should use, and the pjcalc on curt's website for the g70 doesn't work on my computer for some reason. since it's going to be mounted vertically it will be able to shoot pretty much wall to wall so the distance will be about 13' from projector to screen, and i want to make a 16:9 screen probably order fabric from dazian.com
