Help with new home theater purchase

I'm completely new to this and have just started doing research. Basically I want a decent budget friendly setup for my basement. It's about 600 sq feet (L shaped). Have about $800-$1k to spend total. Was looking at Yamaha V375 receiver (~$200) and Dayton 1200 sub ($130). I'm hoping going a bit lower on the receiver will allow me to get better speakers. For speakers, need 3 bookshelves for front and 2 inwall surrounds (couldn't sell the wife on wall mounted).

My questions are 1. Will this receiver have any issues handling the Dayton sub and decent speakers? 2. Should I pay more for a better receiver at the expense of spending a less on speakers? 3. What speakers would you guys suggest for bookshelves and inwall surrounds? Thanks a ton!

The Dayton sub is powered so no concerns there. The Yamaha should have no issues if you go with some efficient speakers. For your front three, there are a number of options within your budget. I've listed a some of them below.

Ascend Acoustics CBM-170SE FL/FR and CMT-340SE center: $650

Cambridge S30 (3x): $400 (I'm not sure you can purchase singles)

Infinity Primus 163 (3x): $330 (Amazon)

HTD Level 2 or 3 (2 pair): $400/$600 (HTD may sell singles, not sure)

Arx A1b (3x): $450

Wavecrest Audio HVL-1 (3x): $335

Very helpful thanks. On the cambridge, I see that they have also an s50 center. Would you recommend that with a pair of the s30s? Or just 2 pairs of s30s?
If you're open to using the dedicated center the S50 would be an excellent match for the S30s.
Ok so the last thing I need to figure out is surrounds. I'm torn between in wall or very small wall mounted. The in wall would be ear level. The wall mount would need to be close to 8 ft from the ground and angled down. Not much flexibility there. Would I be better off buying a larger in wall speaker or smaller wall mount (was looking at the cambridge min 11)?
There are some decent in-wall speakers out there but I would always prefer wall-mounted (unless you can consider Atlantic, Boston, or perhaps PSB). I think the Cambridge Minx Min 11 would be fine and a fairly cheap option. Boston makes some good in-wall speakers but they are more costly. I've include a link below.

If you have the vertical space, I would go with another S30 as a center.

For surrounds, look at NXG Pro 4.1 - sold each

+1
Thanks guys. What about the Polk OWM3 work as surrounds? Looking for something in white, smaller in size, and easy to mount. Will they be too overpowered by the other speakers in my setup (cs s30/50, Dayton 1200 sub)? Sorry if this is a goofy question. This is all new and confusing to me

You can always balance the sound level, with the receiver

Another option with the surrounds - Focal Sib

What about these options:

HTD Middy http://www.htd.com/Products/flat-panel-speakers/middy-compact-speaker

Boston acoustics SoundWare http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/BOSSOUNDWAREWHT/BOSTON-ACOUSTICS-SoundWare-4.5-in-Indoor/Outdoor-Speaker-Each/1.html#!specifications

Between these and the Focal SiB and polk owm3 which is going to be best overall value and work best with the rest of my setup?

The Middy is nice

The Boston is nice

Some people enjoy the Polk

My recommendation for the Focal stands

My second option is Boston
