Help with Philips MX5100VR HTIB

Hello all this is my first posting on this forum. I'm a tivocommunity member and they talk about this forum all the time, so I thought I'd check it out. Some great infomation so far.

I did a search for my HTIB and found nothing, so I was hoping someone might be able to help. I have a Philips MX5100VR system, its about 2 years old. The company I was working for at the time gave it to me, I didnt purchase it, so please dont slam my choice of systems. Anyways I'm wondering if there is a way to improve the sound quality on this system? Oh I admit, its better then listening through my crappy tv speakers, but I think it could be better. My main complaint is watching DVDs. I have to seriously crank the volume up to here most things and the volume spikes a lot, so i have to keep my hand on the volume button. Also, i dont get a lot of sound from my back speakers. Is there a setting I dont have set up correctly? This is the only surround sound system i've ever had, so its all new to me. Any help you can give is appericated:)
