Looking for a 40" to 46" flat panel for kitchen dining area. It'll be set on top of a 4' book case approx. 5.5' from the dining table. So the display will be above eye level. The screen will be facing north so sunlight should not be an issue. No need for smart TV apps. The display will be hooked up to my bedroom system (HDdvr, blu-ray,etc.) via HDMI to cat5 conversion.

There are only a few good options below the 50" screen size threshold this year.

The BEST option is the excellent1080p Panasonic TC-P42S60 - it has better picture quality than any LCD TV at any price, and is the only good Plasma TV below 50 inches. If you can expand your screen size to 50" or 51" then you have more and better options.

In the LCD world, the 46" Sony HX950 or HX850 series are very good, but have the typical inherent LCD issues and will not look as good as a decent Plasma.

Any decent to good to excellent TV will automatically come with smart apps and in many cases even 3D but don't let that stop you from choosing such a model - most of us just ignore those features and enjoy the TV normally.

Thank you Randy for your reply. The Panny plasma is the display I would love to get. I'm just afraid it wouldn't be brite enough for the kitchen with alot of ambient light. I was hoping there might be an LCD out there with decent offcenter performance. By the way I love your avatar. Long live B5!

Ended up with ordering a UN46F6400. Hope it works out. Iwas afraid the 42S60 plasma wouldn't be bright enough for the kitchen. Also liked the web browser. Got the opt. keyboard. Now I'll be able to check my E-mail while eating breakfast.
