Help with screen selection and projector

1079 Views 9 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Forumlister1
Hi I am just about finished with my Basement and am creating an area that is mostly light controled there is one window with blackout blinds. The area itself is 17x15 with the back wall being open to another area however there is a soffit boardering the ceiling that with have curtains i can close to get the absolute darness.

I am looking at either the Epson 7500UB or the Epson 1080UB (any advice on which to go with would be great) i wish i had the planned better and made space for the JVC RS10 but die to the size of the unit itself i cant.

The projecter is going to be shelf mounted in the back of the room 17ft from the screen and near the top edge. the seating is primarily about 15ft from the screen. I am wanting to use either a 110" or 120" screen depending what will give me the best picture.

Also i am hoping i can find something that will work with the light on in the room behind the theater area for football and UFC parties not much of light reaches the screen wall but i didnt know how the reflections would enhance it.

I know i am acking for a lot of different things and i may have to compromise but this is my first projector and cant wait.

Thanks for all you help.

How high is the screen going to be mounted? Did you have an idea on size? Also, what type (electric, manual, fixed, etc...)?

The 7500 kills the 1080UB as an FYI, but is also more money.
i was thinking of somewhere between 110"-120" fixed screen. it will be mounted roughly 3 ft from the floor. i was leaning towards the 7500UB even though i have not been able to see one in person everyone around me only stocks the pro cinima 1080Ub. but thanks for that advice it makes me feel much better.

How does the 6500UB compare to the 7500UB is it worth the extra money?
The 6500 and 7500 are nearly identical, with the 7500 only having some added features (black case, longer warranty, free spare lamp and mount, and vertical stretch). From a performance standpoint there is no difference (I myself elected to sell the 6500 because of this). Either outperforms the 1080UB (which is discontinued).

I made a boo boo...how high is the projector going to be mounted (not the screen)?
The projector is going to be about 10 INCHES from the ceiling so roughly 7 ft from the floor.
Got it. Last question...what color scheme will the walls/ceilings be?

The walls are a dark brown along with the carpet is dark brown as well. the ceiling is white.
Hmm...there are definitely going to be pros and cons to the 2 main types...gray vs. white. If it were me, I'd go with a lower gain white, around 1.3 or so. It doesn't sound like sports will be the primary use so I would lean away from the gray.

I do actually intend to use this a lot for watching football and UFC fights. willi benefit from a grey screen in this area and also do you have any recomendations on what brand to go with?
Hello Jason T., I'd like a little help with choosing a screen.

Here are my specs

I want to purchase a Epson Home Cinema 720 with 1600 lumens said to be top 3 brightest 720 P projectors.

I watch sports more than movies, but do want good quality movies, and occasionally play video games. Honestly the most important thing to me is watching sporting events with medium ambient light, like Tryg said, I don't want to watch the superbowl in the dark. My room is also totatlly light controlled.

Here's my setup my room is 13 ft wide by 23 ft long. I have two rows of 3 seats.

I want a screen that is 92" or 100" whichever you think would be best.

The first row head level is 10' from said screen and the 2nd row is 16'.

I have two light scones 7' from screen.

My ceiling is about 7' 3"

The walls are a darkish red

The ceiling is white

The carpet is white

Along with the projector I'm wondering which type of screen should I use to get my desired effect. Could you also tell me where do you think I should place the projector, height and distance wise. I would like to place it hanging from the ceiling preferably behind the second row, so we don't see it and we don't hear the sound coming from it, but if this is not best then let me know what is best for what I'm trying to acheive here.

I was thinking the da lite high power because I figured that my angles are too bad seeing how my room is narrow, however since the projector has decent lumen output I was wondering if I would be fine with just a the 1.3 gain screen that Tryg has. One more question would it be benificial with my room size to go with retro reflective rather than angular reflection to acheive resulst.

Much thanks in advance.
