So I am trimming up my list of LCDs and have a few I am considering.

Sony KDL-65W850A $2.5K

Samsung UN65F8000 $3K

Samsung UN65F7100 $2.2K

VIZIO M651d-A2R 1.7K


So right now I am teetering between the Sony 850A and the Sammy 7100.

These sets meet my requirements of 65” with 3D.

I threw the Vizio on there because I am not adamantly against going Vizio and if it is AS GOOD as the others it deserves to be there. I am, however thinking that Vizio is still not as reliable or as good as Sony or Samsung.


Am I missing something?


After looking at the 1080P sets to come I don’t think they are really worth waiting for.


I was also considering the Sony w900a but can’t find it in a 65” version.

Check out the thread on the W850A, it's truly a great tv. Sony's triluminus technology really makes the picture pop. The W900 is not available in a 65", in essence the W850 is it's larger brother with the difference being 65" is 120hz native and the 55" is the last tv in Sony's line to still have a 240hz panel. If you can go see the Sony next to a Samsung. The Sammy F8000 looks washed out next to the W850A or W900A. So you know, Sony's 4K panels are all 120hz native. There are no satellite or cable companies in North America that supply boxes that are any faster than 120hz, most of them still run at 60hz. Let me know if you would like any other information.

whitout a doubt the sony, it just received an outstanding review in FRANCE and of course you were not even aware

my advice would be: "why on earth would you buy such an expensive 1080p TV" ????

have you not read that starting next month 4k tv will be the same price as 1080???? like i always say, i can't understand human behavior

So I think I understand the deal now.


The F8000 is the best 65” 1080P LED. (among my choices)

The 900A is Sony’s best right now, but only 55”

The 850A is roughly equivalent to the Samsung F7100. (I am generalizing here)

The F8500 Plasma is still an option and within scope. Not sure why I want to get out of Plasma, I love my Panny but I think I want the sharper LED picture now.

The Vizio M series 65” is a nice low end cop-out with probably the best 3D performance of the bunch.


On the horizon, however, is Sony’s 950B but more $$$.

New Sharps, but I am counting those out for various reasons.


Of course all of this gets you on that slippery slope. If I buy the F8000 I am paying as much as an entry level UHD panel.


I am almost thinking that the best wait and see approach is to get the vizio, save money and wait for OLED to come within grasp.

Hi There, The Vizio is an option and this years flagship models received very good reviews at CES. I would however recommend getting an extended warranty for it depending on how long you plan on keeping it. The new 65W950B is supposed to be launching at around 2900 but prices should drop some relatively quickly. I am waiting to see just how good that model is, since I was seriously considering the 65W850A. I did a color test on the new Sharp 10 million sub pixel deal with the extra yellow sub pixel for more colors and it was horrible, the reds where totally crushed and blues and greens looked rather flat. We have a Sony demo we run on our 4K's and the two top of the line HD's I mentioned and it's great at showing the extended color pallet of  the triluminous display.That's what I ran on the Sharp. I don't know if i mentioned that I work representing Sony HD tv and home theatre at a large local retailer. I am not biased towards Sony though, and agree that the Sammy F8500 64" is stunning. I don't know if I mentioned this the other day but Oled is still a few years away at least. I have peers that work at other stores in my capacity and have sent me pictures of the screen burn in on the 9000 dollar Samsung Oled on the floor. The 2013 Vizio M has 3D and is edge-lit.


The 2014 Vizio M Series is a 32-dimming-zone FALD that should deliver significantly improved contrast and dark-level performance but has no 3D - it is $1500 for 65".


The Vizio P Series is a 64-dimming-zone FALD that is 4K and will hopefully deliver better contrast and dark-level performance than the F8000 - it is $2200 for 65".


The Vizio R Series is a 384-dimming-zone FALD that is 4K, 800 Nit and extended color gammut for HDR, and will hopefully match or surpass the Sharp Elite for contrast and dark-level performance (hoping for similar performance to the Sony X950B based on the feedback from CES). The 65" R has not been priced yet and so may or may not exist this year, but if it does materialize, it is sure to cost significantly less than the 65" Sony X950B (which has an MSRP of $8000).

Quite simple, get the 64F8500 and be done with it. You will have no regrets because it would have the best pq of all the TV's you have listed here. Blacks will be better then the others, you won't have to worry about viewing angles and your picture washing out, no clouding or flashlighting to worry about and it will get bright enough to satisfy all. The F8500 also offers a more digital type feel to the picture as well as Sasmungs processor that offers that sharpness that you like. It comes very close to giving you that LED feel without the LED problems.

are you a gamer? Input lag is an issue on plasmas and on the 8500 its pretty high. I'm leaning towards an 850a myself because I want the larger size and though I love plasma, gaming is taking up more TV time these days so I need to compromise.

I am not a gamer and the OP did not mention anything about gaming either so it must not be important to him. For the casual gamer the F8500 will be more then adequate with game mode on though.


If pq is your top priority then I would go with the F8500. If gaming is high on the list and you want to sacrifice pq for it then I would go with the Sony.

Gaming is somewhat of a priority but not huge.


After reading more I am looking at Sharps SQ70 and the Sammy F8000.

The W850A is still a possibility.
