Hey guys I am a noob in this forum but have posted and been part of the the HTPC forum for a bit.

So I saw that BestBuy is having an open box sale for DTV receivers. As of right now I have a DirectTV(3 receivers one dish). What will I need to enjoy DirecTV HDTV, do I need another satellite to do this or can I just use the one I have. I know I will have to order the HD programming and all. Anything else I need to know?

Thanks guys

GePapa,

Unless you already have it, you'll need an oval dish with triple-lnb's to pick up the HD signals. And, of course, a new receiver. Some people have talked DirecTV into sending them the dish at no/low cost per other threads I've read. In my case I was a new subscriber so I have no direct experience with this issue.

Don't forget about OTA HD reception, which will greatly enhance your viewing options if available in your area.

I'm in a similar boat. Question I have is if I get the Oval Dish w/ the Triple LNB:

1. Will it pull in OTA? According to AntennaWeb, I only need a small multidirectional for all my local OTAs.

2. I have Ultimate TV w/ 2 feeds. Can I split one of the feeds off and drive the HDTV tuner w/ that or am I looking at another pull (ugh).

Much appreciated.

A dish will not pick up OTA signals. An antenna is required. Multidirectional antennas are prone to multipath interference. Directional is better. You will need another feed line from the dish.
