I have recently bought the Jamo S606 package and this is my first home theater setup. My question is about where to place the S602 bookshelves as my surround speakers. My choices are to either wall mount in the corners or on the side walls. The setup guide I see online shows surround speakers in 5.1 setup to be placed on side walls but I would much rather like to put them in the corner aesthetic purposes, but if side placement would produce better sound then I will compromise and go with that.

Also for the corner mount, the speakers would be flush mounted against both walls and be firing toward the front of the toward the tv. The side mount would still have them flushed against the wall but about 1 foot away from corner and they would be firing to the sides of the room toward each other. Also I have those rubber feet things that come with the speakers to be placed when wall mounting to maintain a 1/4" gap between speaker port and wall.

If anyone has any experience of advice please post as I am unable to continue my install until I figure out placement. Also I read online that capping the port on the rear of the speaker would help with corner placement but would this sacrifice my midrange performance?

On the side walls would be better. You NEVER want to put a speaker's side against a wall, like you proposed in the corner.

If you want to corner mount, then place the speakers on a 45* angle. There are corner wall brackets for mounting on a 45*. Or make a pair of wood or metal, if you have the tools to do so.

Looks like you have a choice - aesthetics - or good sound.

I know which one I'd pick.

Aesthetics? I can't hear aesthetics!

Thanks for the response guys. I will definitely be choosing sound over aesthetics, just wanted to make sure that it makes that much of a difference. Also these Jamo S602 bookshelves are heavy (weigh about 15lbs each) and even though they come with screw hole on back for mounting I would like some additional support for them. Could you guys suggest anything that would provide more support even though I will be securing the screw into the stud without messing up the aesthetics too much. I will be side wall mounting them so corner shelves would not work.

I doubt they weight 30~35 lbs, like my speakers. I just use two screws in the wall. For drywall use EZ anchors, you can get them in any hardware store. My speakers are 13" wide and 24" tall.

I just looked, your S602 are only 7.5 lbs.

Yea you are right they weigh 7.5 lbs each not 15, I was guessing the weight based on how they felt and I was way off. What length of screw should I use then? I was thinking of 1 1/4" but maybe this is too short as their needs to be a 1/4" gap between speaker and wall. Also the thick screws do not fit in the keyhole on the back so I have to use something like a #14 screw, if this makes any difference. Thanks again for your advice.

Use whatever size will fit through the keyhole. 1 1/4" length will be good.
