Bulb costs are only an issue if you use the projector a lot (like, for your regular tv).

If you're like me and you use it to watch (at most) 2 movies a week, that's

4 hours per week * 52 weeks = 208 hours per year.

That gets me almost 5 years before I need a new (1000 hour) bulb. My projector will be pretty obsolete by then, I think.

Hi all,

I have found a number of used projectors available in the $1000 range. If any one has any info, experiance, rumors, or horror stories about any of the following projectors, please let me know. I know these are not perfect for home theater, but with my budget i know there will be compromises.

Compaq MP1400 DLP (New/refurb)

Dukane ImagePro 8020A LCD

NEC MultiSync MT820 LCD

All are 800x600.

Thanks for any and all help

Although I haven't taken the FP plunge (yet) I have discovered from the mass of incredibly good info @ avsforum that bulb costs are an important part of any FP purchase. I'd suggest you look into cost and availability of bulbs before you buy the projector. It would be a bummer to get a good price on the projector and find out the bulbs aren't available or cost more than the projector did!
