my friend bought a yamaha htr6150 and has never been able to get any sound from the speakers when using the hdmi cables from his PS3 or HD cable box. He has to run seperate digital optical cables for both. Is this receiver not capable of playing audio direct from the hdmi cable or does he have it set up wrong ? Also, i am buying the yamaha rx-v665 soon,will i have the same issue?

In the menu there is an option for whether the receiver processes HDMI audio or passes it through. GO to manual setup. Option. HDMI set. Choose rx-v665, and not other. This is how my 663 works, so I'm speculating that the newer receiver will be the same. Good luck.
