With a DVD recorder, will I be able to make recordings from a HD source that will be as good in quality as DVD's with Dolby Digital sound, say like all the episodes of Lost?

jmscott42 is absolutely correct. The most you will get with the current crop of DVDRs is standard definition with stereo sound. Now an HD PVR is another matter. With one of these (I get mine tomorrow) you are supposedly able to get HD and 5.1 recording. You will of course loose that if you try to dub it to a DVDR.

I have duped a HD program from a Comcast Motorola 6412 PVR to my E80H via S-video (480i) and burned it to a DVD-R in the SP mode. IMO it was close to a pre-recorded DVD in video quality (played back on a Panasonic 42PA25U plasma in zoom mode), but of course only 2.0 was recorded in audio. So while you can't archive HD material yet, except on a HD-VCR recorder (good luck), you can get some very good lucking copies doing as I did.

I won't know until tomorrow when it arrives via UPS. I opted for the self install as I'm pretty savvy about HT installation. I did my digital cable box install from Cox as well as my Internet install. Self install saves me 45 bucks.
