Avoid Terk brand antennas under all circumstances.

A good antenna for UHF DTV reception is the "Silver Sensor." You can find it rebranded under the Philips name right here for about $25. The Silver Sensor resembles the Terk HDTVi, but for some reason, the Terk "ripoff" doesn't work anywhere near as well.

An alternative for UHF DTV reception is this $15 antenna from Radio Shack. It's not as pretty, but it's cheaper, available locally, and works almost as well for most people.

If you need UHF/VHF reception, try the Radio Shack part # 15-1880 . At $39.99, it is a bit more expensive, but many have had success with it.

Radio Shack has a liberal return policy, so you could buy both (#15-1880 and #930-0998) and keep the one that works best at your location.

Keep in mind that DTV reception is sensitive to antenna orientation. A 30 degree difference in antenna orientation can mean the difference between perfect reception and no reception at all.

I have the Zenith Silver Sensor, and I love it. I am actually having better luck with it with the antenna in a vertical orientation than the standard horizontal. Any ideas why that works better?

I have used both the Silver Sensor and the Radio Shack bowtie and the Silver Sensor worked a lot better for me. However, OTA reception is notoriously fickle and what works for a person 2 houses away might not work for you. The Radio Shack options are a great place to start because most people have one close to them and you can always return.

Good luck!

I also have had fairly good luck with the Silver Sensor, which I bought at Sears. For me it worked better than the Radioshack 1880. However, I also agree that OTA reception is variable depending upon location, and I have seen posts from people for whom the Radio Shack worked great. As somebody noted, if you have a vhf station you need to get (in Connecticut we have at least two), the Radio Shack or an equivalent that gets vhf is the way to go. I have a vhf station that is a fair distance away. I got it occasionally on the Radio Shack. I never get it on the Silver Sensor. If I got this station a little better I would have kept the Radio Shack, as the Silver Sensor's uhf performance is only a little better (in my installation).

FYI just because you are close enough to use an 'indoor' antenna they may not work. I'm only 11 miles from my towers and due to house construction and multipath indoor antennas (all) will not work. I need the larger outdoor to get a clear signal. Don't blame the antenna's if they don't work perfectly.
