I am currently using a B&W HTM1 and am considering a new center channel. My dealer told me to look at the

B&W LCR6

B&W Nautilus

Definitive Technology CLR3000

Aerial CC3

My electronics package includes a Sunfire Cinema Grand and a Lexicon DC1.

Center channel would be used for video only.

Any thoughts on these speakers?

I am looking to upgrade the B&W Matrix HTM, my current surrounds are a pair of Kef K120's.

Using the Lexicon I have generally found that its flexibiliy and control allow me to mix and match surrounds w/ center channel.

Steve,

I am very happy with my aerial cc3, but Im using an all aerial front end. my rears are rock solids (b&w has some connection to them). I think youre best off matching at least the front.

I have the B&W Nautilus HTM1 Centerspeaker and think it is a perfect match with my B&W Nautilus 803's. What HTM1 did you refer to ? Nautilus ?

I couldn't imagine having a better center for my setup.......

I have the CC3 with Acoustic Energy AE2s for the L/R. I had the Acoustic Energy Center channel and it comes nowhere near the sound that the CC3 puts out which amazingly enough integrates better than the Acoustic Energy center.....

The other thing about the CC3 is that you can buy the stand that Kelly designed or had designed for it. Using this stand, you can set up the speaker in multiple ways to get the "best" sound including canting the speakers up or down, height adjustments, etc. This was especially critical for me since I use a drop down electric screen. By using this very versatile stand, we were able to adjust the speaker so that it was just below the electric screen when it is fully deployed while canting the speaker towards the listener/sweet spot.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Listen to the Aerial. You can tune it for the speaker config (stand,tv,in-wall) and also optimize the midrange. I'm very happy with my CC3s. Most of the reviews I've read consider the CC3 as one of the best on the planet (CC5 being better now).

My current center is the old Matrix HTM, NOT the Nautilus HTM.

Mark raises a good point, the center channel will be enclosed in a cabinet, how does that affect the choice of the Nautilus HTM versus the CC3?

The Aerial speakers sound better with the grill cloth off. Enclosing speakers in a cabinet only degrades the sound. So at least, if you're going to have the speaker behind a cloth grill in a cabinet door, take off the speaker grill cloth.

If you can, set up a side-by-side. I have heard nothing yet that can match the C/L/R 3000. Great speaker without the sub, but the sub makes it.

Though I never realized it, many DTS and DD5.1 disks have enormous amount of <80Hz information in the center channel. Prior to the recent addition of this speaker to my setup, I was letting my Lex DC-2 pass these frequencies through to the LFE. With the 3000, I set the center to Large, and listen to the difference. Try before you buy.

As an owner of Acoustic Energy speakers, yes, I will say their center stinks! However, the towers/monitors are superb! I have heard the CC3 is great - so it blends well? I think the 500 series has the same drivers as the AE2's, right? That's what I need to match (520s).
