Hi Guys,

I have a 6-7 year old Yamaha 2092 receiver (100 w x5). Bult like a tank! It has Dolby Dig only..no DTS...I added Axiom EP500 sub, which has added a new dimension to the hometheater experience since I never had a sub before!

My usage is 90% hometheater/10% music.

My ? is if I were to move up to used separates, like Anthem AVM-20 or 30, coupled with Anthem 200 watt x 5 amp old MCA5 or newer MCA50, what sort of sonic improvement would I be looking at X% for music and Y% for hometheater.

If I'm chasing 3-5%, I probably won't do it, if the improvement is 15-25% I will do it.

For me: Anthem/Parasound/Aragon/Sunfire used gear, or Outlaw-new is within my budget. Krell/Mcintosh level out of the park for me...

Thanks Vince

Start by adding the amp....and go from there. The older Yamaha gear was darn good stuff in its category/pricepoint....I dont believe the difference will be huge, but it will improve. To put some kind of numbers on it is just crazy talk though

How big a player is the DTS audio track? I know there are numerous threads on DTS vs DD...

Can you select the DTS audio track w/ DD only reciever?

Thanks for the inputs....

The DTS track will only be able to be played on a preamp that has DTS processing. The difference may come down to a personal choice. The Bit rate is higher on a DTS track so it may sound clearer and louder. Some DVD's sound great in DD. Some may sound better to you in DTS. For instance, the Star Wars movies and the Matrix movies don't have DTS and for the most part, they all sound great. Now IROBOT and Minority Report sound very good in DTS. It is good to have both just so all bases are covered.

I went from a Yamaha 3090 w/ outboard amps to a AVM20v2 w/ the same amps. The difference is extreme. Movies are more detailed, dialogue is much better. And on the music side, there is alot more detail..

I had and still have a Yamaha RX-V2095, the updated model of your 2092 and I really liked that receiver. I moved it out of my main listening area and replaced it with a seperate amp and pre/pro and the difference was dramatic. I have since replaced the seperates with a Denon receiver, but that's another story. If you are looking to replace your 2092 with quality seperates you are going to be very happy. I will say that I push my gear hard. I listen at or above refrence level frequently.
