Just finished my first HTPC earlier this week and I was wondering if you guy could point me in the direction for some high quality or HD video downloads for it or any high quality players/decoders/codecs. I am running TheaterTek right now with nVidia PureVideo decoders (not planning on chaning except for adding quicktime 7). Also is quicktime 7 pro worth it or is it a slight step up than quicktime 7.

Thanks all,

sorry for having so many questions but thanks for the patience (new to HTPC and excited to finally have it working to my operational standards and want to get cracking with all those high quality vids, etc.)

If you want high quality videos then I don’t know why you want quicktime? I play most of my HD material in Windows Media Player 10 or Zoom player. Here are several places to get HD content.

Microsoft WMVHD samples. Really good HD!

Here are samples from the new Sony HC1 HD camcorder. It is actually quite impressive!

You will need a variety of codecs to play these files. I use the Nvidia DVD decoder for the MPG and Mt2 files. I also use xvid, divx, and wmv for some of the .avi files.

Lots of downloads from HC1

More downloads. Slow server though.

I thought QT7 Pro doesn't add anything to non-pro version in terms of playback quality.

It does add encoding capabilities (Apple's implementation of the H.264 codec, aka MPEG-4 part 10).
