High quality small PR sub design?
Hi,
I might be interested in building a small passive radiator design subwoofer.
The budget is $1000. The goal is to have the most 18Hz and above output in an enclosure size hopefully less than a 15'' cube.
Are there any designs out there? I saw the 12'' Peerless XLS design, but I was hoping for a design revolving around a higher powered driver
If not, any suggestions on the driver, amp, and other stuff in a DIY build?

I have the D dual PR in my bedroom and I'm flat down to 14hz. Beware that 12" SDX is 40# though. Not your typical 12" by no means.
A 15" cube is going to be small for a 12" ported sub, especially if its tuned low.

The SDX roughly likes about 2.6cf (18" cube) before .5ish for displacement. A guy can go smaller though.
The SDX 15 doesn't seem like a very good performer either when looking at the data-bass results and comparing it to the LMS-R 12. A 15'' driver would most likely be too large for what I want if I want to stay near a 15'' cube.

A 15" cube really wont give you the enclosure volume needed for a low tuned sub even with PR's, the drivers will eat up too much volume. You really need to go with a 16" cube. A 10" driver would also be more optimal for digging deep in low volume. Yes you are going to give up output and sensitivity, but that is the trade off for low and small. A HiVi SP10 paired with dual CSS APR12's (loaded at 900g) will basically get you flat to 20hz and handle about 650 watts.

I put 1200w to the 12" SDX as apposed to 2000w to the 12" LMS-R in 3cf. The excursion is used up with the LMS but the SDX has more to give. I'm afraid to put more than 1200w to it though. Making a attempt at being realistic. Throw the 15" SDX in it would be interesting, but not a driver you think much of although I differ.
