I just finished doing a couple of things to make my HTPC quieter: I replaced the power supply fan with an Enermax adjustable speed fan, and slowed down the 60 mm case fan from >5000 rpm to ~3500 rpm with a resistor inline. I didn't touch the CPU, motherboard, or anything else.

When I boot the computer now the +3.3V fluctuates between 3.408V and 3.744V, the latter number being high enough for the BIOS to complain on reboot and for ASUS PCProbe to be upset. It never hits 3.3V. All the rest of the readings (+12, +5, etc.) are stable.

Does anyone know the effect this might have on my computer? Is there a way to adjust this or fix it in some way? BTW, the power supply doesn't provide a way to monitor its fan speed, and the resistor on the case fan is in a power lead extension I got with a 90 mm fan from QuietPC.

ASUS P4T (i850 chipset)

Intel P4 1.8 (Socket 423)

512 mb RDRAM

Thanks.
