I'm looking for a tv at Sams club due to their satisfaction guarantee. I'm eyeballing a 47" Vizio SV47OXVT1A is $1299 (they have an open box for $859). The other tv I was looking at is a Vizio VL42OM which is a 42" for $847.

The SV47OXVT1A has a dynamic contrast ratio of 6,500:1 while the VL42OM has a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1. From what I've read the SV47OXVT1A is the better tv, so why is the contrast ratio so much lower? I've noticed this with a lot of tv's the higher priced ones seem to have a lower contrast ratio.

Because "contrast ratio" is a near meaningless number, the same as "response time". There is no standard as to ratio of what to what used by all makers so it's roll your own gibberish.

look at them with your own too eyes.

They only have a handful of tv's on display and the 42" tv is not one of them. The 47" is though and it did look really nice.
