Hold off on that Samsung 78JS9500 SUHD. There is about to be much cheaper alternatives.

Hisense announces 78" ULED WHF display. More vaporware? At least for the US market. The specs keep changing. I don't know if , when or what we will ever get in the US market.

(WCG/HDR/FALD) Guesstimate street price.
78XT920 Curved ULED 900nits 240 zone $?
65XT910 Curved ULED 1200nits 144 zone $3000
65XT900 Flat ULED 800nits 144 zone $2500
55XT900 FLat ULED 800nits ? zone $1500

The 65" is already priced pretty high for a Chinese product. I do like the stand shown in the image above though, I'd love to see more TV makers offer something like that.

I posted this on the 8k forum, looks like China is going to start moving the LCD market instead of Korea

The Finetech Japan exhibition is running from April 8-10 in Tokyo, featuring technologies from display makers including 98-inch 8K displays from China-based BOE.

Is Hisense part of the UHD alliance? Not sure if I ever saw a good looking Hisense TV. What's the big push for 8K any way? Glasses free 3D?
Hisense has licensed Dolby Vision (along with Vizio and TCL). I don't believe any of those three is a member of the UHD Alliance (probably not invited by Samsung, So y, and Panasonic), though Dolby is.

Hisense and TCL and Vizio are all paying royalties to Dolby to assure that everything in their HDR TVs supports the emerging HDR standard and displays HDR content as effectively/fantastically as possible.

Announcements of first streaming of HDR by Netflix (Marco Polo) should be coming soon. It will be interesting to see what joint announcements are issued by Dolby and various HDR a TV vendors (possibly including Hisense ;)). As long as Netflix is supporting Dolby, this should all work out well for Hisense (and the other Dolby Vision licensees).

As far as 8K, 8K is the new 4K :D. Leap-frogging is the most well-established strategy for disruptive up-and-comers to shoe-horn their way into a mature (calcified?) market...

Maybe something is getting lost in translation again, but according to official Hisense press release.

This month, Hisense ULED display technology will be released in the United States,

Most likely the inferior edge-lit K720 ULED with no HDR. Just QDF for WCG. Curious move with them set to take over the Sharp name on JAN 2016. The ULED sets with WCG/HDR/FALD are the XT900, XT910 and XT920.

I'd welcome comments and perspective about this slightly more dated news-article regarding domestic

The 78" has still not been released in China yet? Should probably see at again at IFA 2015 if it will eventually be a real product. The 65XT910 seems to have actually been released and is starting to show up in China, South Africa and Saudi Arabia. Maybe the 78" will be announced as a Sharp product at CES 2016. I just find it confusing they are going to try to release their premium displays under the Hisense name instead of slapping on the Sharp name and getting a little more brand name respect from the uniformed.
