hissing/ high pitch sound

Hi ppl i have a TH-50PE700U purchased Sept 29 2007. Yesterday i was watching a movie and then a high pitch sound emerged from the TV. but it does not happen early on, it takes about one to two hours for the annoying sound emerges, i have it connected to a surge protector since first day.

Any suggestions?

Where does this sound emanate from?

I am assuming not from the speakers.

My first impression, from your description is that it may be the power supply.

thanks for your reply, and yes it is not from the speakers, it is from the back of the unit, i feel a little disappointed because the TV set doesn't have 2 years and already having problems

Did you buy it using an AMEX or some other good credit card? Because a lot of cards add one year to the manufacturer's warranty and will pay for the repairs in year two.

I can't remember ever reading any posts here about a high pitched sound coming from a plasma. Could it be one of the fans making the noise? It could be the power supply singing too. Dunno.

there are many post about buzzing/hissing of plasmas...see posts 16969 and 16970 in the first thread; the second thread is all about buzz. you can search for more.

some pios are known to buzz/hiss on day one while other develop over time. i have 2 pios, both emit: 1) buzz that is heard near the back of the tv on quiet scenes...2) is a high frequency pitch that only younger people hear.

as a pio owner, i have focused on pio buzz posts...so i am not sure how prevalent it is in pannys.
