hissing noise distance?

How close should I be to my speakers before I am able to hear a hissing noise(receiver on, nothing playing)? From what I understand, that's something you just have to deal with.

I have these set of speakers:

And previously had these:

And I swear I can hear the hissing in the CV system at about 2x the distance as the DCM's. About 3-4 inches for the DCM, about half a foot for the CV sats. At first I think it was the sub-standard sensitivity(I don't care really, they're sats, don't require much juice anyway), but the center channel is the same.

It's not something that really bothers me. I didn't even notice my DCM's made a hissing until I heard on the CV sats. I know I shouldn't be able to hear the hissing from where I am sitting, the sats are all at least 2 ft away, but my room is very noisy. High speed fan on my cpu, 4 other fans going in the case, and an air filter. So even if I can't here the sats' hissing, my mind makes me think it's there, know what I mean?

It would put me at ease if this was just a normal operation and nothing I could about it.

I have a Sony STR485(really ******) receiver, but the hissing distance was the same when I tried them on an HK DPR 1001.

Thanks

Huh. I went from a Sony STRDE-G750ES (I think that's what it was, one of the lower ES receivers) to a HK AVR7200 and the previously-very-noticeable hissing completely disappeared. YMMV.

nearly ALL amplifiers have some sort of hiss..... receivers even more so.....

but it is really irrelevant.... if you can't hear it your listening position it doesn't matter......

and with your environmental noise (all those fans) it makes the situation even less critical....

i would recommend trying some way to either relocate your computer and/or some way to enclose your computer in sound proof enclosure....

i relocated my computer into an adjacent room because of the very same fan noise issue....

you could go out and spend big bucks on new equipment and it still wouldn't get rid of the noise in your room....

cheers!
