Welp this is my first post on avsforums so I'm hopeful someone may be well informed and willing to assist with my endevours to configure my amd64 Gentoo system to work properly with dad's three year old birthday present and help me configure this years birthday present. We have a fairly wild setup around home which is also my office with a fleet of opterons, complete gbit cisco switched network (necessary evil of seeking cisco ccie certifications) and 3TB of sata which I would love to crown with the last jewel... Mythtv!! I've had my htpc system for around a year already but recently upgraded the pcie videocard to a BFG 7600GT that supports 1080i video resolutions. The 7600GT pcie comes with a connectable component video convertor which i've attempted to test in both gentoo and winxp64 pro and in gentoo the hitachi defaults to 480i resolution in framebuffer mode with no overscan and is fairly easy to read. I've yet to find a compatable Modeline for the hitachi that allows 1920x1080i without the displayed image flickering, displaying slight to moderate blurr, the fonts being so tiny one would need to invest in a microscope to assist with viewing and missing four inches off all four sides of the screen. I can and have been able to set the xorg nvidia config to force using the TV output and it will set a 1080i signal but the picture is still nothing to blush over and despite the hitachi set's "info" captions politely informing me it's recieving a 1080i signal from the card the resolution will vary regardless and winxp64 will only manage to fit a maximum image size of 1712x984i on the hitachi without overscan while displaying a very blurred picture despite the hitachi claiming the signal is truly 1080i.

I've googled like a mad animal trying to find info on anyone that has suceeded on finding the correct modelines for the hitachi and have so far come up empty handed. I've tested xvidtune but honestly cannot read any of the fonts when the resolution is set to 1080i making that very difficult at best to use. I'm currently using the component adaptor that shipped with my 7600GT that plugs into the TV out port ( it will do high resolutions but the image is prone to making your eyes water) and I've read that the edid bin cannot be garnished from using anything short of the DVI port so i havent had any luck forcing the edid data to be used. Now i'm no stranger to configuring linux servers and pc's as I used to help Gentoo as a network admin some years ago but there comes a time when you just have to wave the white flag and ask for some help. If there's anything anyone could think of config wise or pictures of the tv or hardware used I could certainly provide them if required.
