I purchased a Hitachi 51swx last week at CC as an open box with full warranty. After delivery and setuup (full Avia), I began to evaluate the picture quality. With DVD the picture was good but not as good as the Mits upstairs. The picture just doesn't appear as sharp as I would expect. The only other source currently connected is cable via Comcast. This picture is horrid, it appears unfocused, almost blurry. I wasn't expecting a stellar picture with cable but this seems particularly bad. Also there is a significant geometry distortion where the lower 1/3 of the sreen exhibits symmetrical lateral bending.

My concerns are:

1. Can and will this be repairable under warranty?

2. Is it likely the service tech they send out will be competent?

3. Should I just punt and send the set back?


I know just enough to be dangerous, so I need some expert help. Even the wife and kids noticed the poor quality and question my sanity in buying this TV.

Any experts or techs with any insight - like, can I do mechanical or electronic focus myself without screwing things up royaly? How? Help?
