Anyone with an Hitachi 55" (55HDT51 or 55HDX61) use a CableCard?

I have tried it and I am having trouble with the digital optical audio out of the AVC. It only seems to pass audio out on stations with Dolby encoded audio.

Hitachi rep says they have not heard of this before.

imaohw, who is your cable provider? Also are you getting any type of a on screen TV guide or are you just getting the channel ID? Lastly, how is the channel changing speed using the cablecard?

Does the AVC have some adjustment for audio output, like DVD players? If so, try a different option, like PCM out, or auto select.

My provider is a small cable company in NJ - Patriot Media.

I was the first (and only so far) CableCard install they did. I am not getting any guide info, only channel ID. The cable company is looking into it. Interestingly the Hitachi does NOT show the channel ID when you change channels, it only shows the channel number. Channel changing is extremely slow. Somewhere in the 2-5 second range. I haven't had enough time to figure out when it is 2 and when it is 5.

Two other strange behaviors with the CableCard:

(1) the Hitachi no longer locks channels (V-chip) based on ratings. The capability is there it just doesn't work.

(2) When using PIP the second picture (using Ant A - cablecard) can only tune to channel 54.

I have not found an audio adjustment or setting that makes any difference with my lack of digital audio out on some programs.

P.S. anyone know where I can get discrete IR codes for the Hitachi. Remotecentral.com doesn't have them.
