I'm researching these 2 models, and noticed something interesting about the Hitachi. Each Input (1 and 2) has composite, component, and S-video jacks. Now, provided that the set automatically switches between the 'active' connection on the selected Input, this would make it ideal to connect to from my A/V reciever - I would just run both a Component and an S-Video from the reciever, and let the TV decide what type of signal is coming in. Can anyone confirm this? I don't think the Sony has this. I was also looking at the Samsung, but I think I've ruled it out because of the lack of a 'universal' component input - i.e. An Xbox will display various formats based on the game and/or menu being displayed, and I don't think there is one input on the Samsung that will accept all of them, as well as issues with using A/V Reciever switching.

Any other comments regarding these 2 units would be greatly appreciated (especially if anyone knows of where the Hitachi DLP might be on display in Northern Jersey or NYC area). Is the lack of a 1080i format support a major issue (knowing that 720p is theoretically better at displaying fast motion).

BTW - I would use it for an even mix of TV viewing, DVD (mostly letterboxed) viewing, and video games. VGA input is a plus, but I have no real use for it right now...

Thanks!
