I just found the Hitachi 65XWX20B for $3,800, (actually $4,000, with a $200 price adjustment from a very decent sales lady) and grabbed the chance. It should be delivered this week. I've been thinking about this purchase for a long time and was awaiting a big price drop, which finally came on the Hitachi.

Now that I've bought one, I'm asking any one who has feelings on the subject to let me know why I made a good move or a bad one relative to the Mitsubishi. Or to be more objective, to point out what features might make me stay with this purchase or change my mind. I know this is a bit weak, but this is a good deal of money and I'd appreciate any last minute pointers while I can still change my mind.

Does anyone know what the XWX's successor will be like and how it will be priced?

I looked long and hard at the Diamond. I still think it has THE best picture. I have a lot of trust in a local ISF guy; he said: "Elite or SWX20B." Since I have Direct and OTA HDTV available, I would have to buy a set top box for either Diamond or XWX. Obviously that is a redundant expense. Also, I think it will be time to replace the set in three years. There is just too much new technology coming on stream. So I got the SWX. Even though the picture is not the very best, it is still very good, so I got what I think is the best value out there.

I have the XWX and I don't think the tuner will be totally redundant when I get a stb. Won't it allow hidef side by side pip? Also, if I get a smaller set for the bedroom I can switch the stb to that and still have hd in the living room. I don't use it yet, but I wanted to have the firewire option available for the future.

But that wasn't his question. I paid $4500 for the XWX and am happy with it. I think you got a heck of a deal. Relax and enjoy it. I've got it connected to my htpc with a dvi cable and use it for surfing, music, games and dvd watching. The first local station is supposed to start broadcasting hd tomorrow. My only hd so far has been samples I've downloaded so I'm looking forward to putting the tuner to use.

Thanks for both responses. I do not think the OTA tuner would be redundant. I can see the need for a separate tuner if I want satellite HDTV.

I like the XWX's picture, including its depth. I also like the anti-reflective screen protector. I looked at a TWX (which also has the anti-reflective protector) next to a Sony WV700 and the difference in screen reflection was rather pronounced. I'd get the TWX but for the marble-like pillar facades (my apologies to whomever designed them, no offense intended).

I hate to break it to you, but the XWX has the fake marble cabinet too. I had a Sony ws500 that got flickered so I traded it in on the XWX and you are right about the anti-reflective screen.

Tawilson, I was referring to the gray marblized appearance of the TWX's front on either side below the screen, as opposed to the glossy black paint job on the XWX. I haven't seen anything looking like fake marble on the XWX (at least not to me). :)

From an entry level 51" WS500 Sony to a Hitachi XWX Director's Series...

Now that's an upgrade:)

Actually, it was the 57". But it was still quite an upgrade. I'm glad the Sony went sour otherwise I wouldn't be looking at this beauty right now. Plus, the first local station is supposed to start broadcasting hidef tonite. Can't wait. Can't wait. Can't wait. Can't wait. Built in tuner. No waiting.
