Hitachi rear projection tv went off by itself

Last night, my Hitachi rear projection tv went off by itself. I pressed power to turn it on and it did nothing. I then unplugged it for 30 secs. to see if it would reset itself like it said in the manual. As soon as I plugged it in, it started to power up with the light coming on in the front panel then went back off. I didn't push power yet and when I did after that, nothing. I am woindering if it had to do with a high voltage problem or even the power supply. I checked the fuse in the back, but it looks ok to me. I am guessing it is ok if the set is getting some power. It powers on with a light in the back turning on then when the other lights in the back turn on, all of the lights on the board that were on go off and nothing works. I called Hitachi's 800# and the guy couldn't help me except by telling me the unplugging it for 30 sec. trick. He gave me a number of a repair service, but the number he gave me is in a city less than a hour away from here. Anyone have any ideas as to what the prob. could be?

A friend of mine recently had the exact same behavior with his Hitachi RP (8 years old). It was necessary to have a repair tech come out. The tech replaced several components on the main circuit board. The tech said a fuse needed to be replaced. In this day of electronic modularity, he actually had to solder the parts off and back onto the board. The trip cost my friend about $350.

I hope it is just something simple, but I have no clue. I read somewhere not to replace the fuse if the light comes on as that could further dmage the set. I just found another forum doing a Google search, and had someone say they had the same problem and they talked to a Hitachi repair guy and was told it was probably a cap or a regulator, we replace a semi conductor, STRM-6511, and now it comes back on. I hope is is that easy, but I will ahve to call a repair guy to see. I hope it is a semiconductor because it will be the least expensive solution. If it is anyone know where I might locate it in the back? Also, a cpl. of lights are on when plugged back in and then when athe green lights come on that's when they go off except for a red blinking light in the back. I am guessing it blinks to stop anthing from staying on or prevent damage. I did a hard reset and left it unplugged all night.

I also did another Google search and found another forum and they say it's probably a flyback autotransformer or high voltage problem. That'll run over $200 plus a housecall and I can't afford any extra expenses right now :(
