Hitachi's new product line announcement is here . They have three 16x9 HDTVs with "built-in ATSC terrestrial and cable HDTV tuners, IEEE 1394 with 5C and DVI (HDCP)".

Aren't these the first sets we have seen that are HDTV cable-ready?

Mits already offers several in this years line .... their WS-65869 (and WS-55909, WS-65909, and WS-73909) Integrated HDTVs have an "ATSC/QAM Digital Cable Tuner" along with two 181 NTSC/Analog Cable Tuners. Can't say how well they work but I wonder if encryption issues won't keep them from being as useful as cable ready NTSC sets are now for analog channels. -- Bruce

Can I gather from this press release that Hitachi, like Mitsubishi, is moving away from 4:3 HDTV monitors? It appears all their new models are 16:9 AR. Only exisitng 4:3 sets are prior models? We really need for the manufacturers to move the public away from the older form factor, don't we?
