picked up the 510 back in '02 and it's been great since... well until last year when it decided to smell funny and not put any sound through to the speakers. new to the area and not knowing where or how to repair, i picked up a Denon 1508 for a killer deal as they were bringing in the new models.

finally got around to taking the HK into the shop and found out some expensive parts were the reason for the smell. looking at $250 for the parts plus labor.

is the 510 worth resurrecting? would i be better off spending $300 on a new receiver (only pushing two jbl e80 in the family room, denon's in the theater room)? i know tech grows exponentially but is a new $300 receiver gonna have the goodies, power, sound the 510 had?

thanks for your help/inputs

Surround sound technology, HD audio decoding and the capability of handling HD video has outrun the AVR510...

As well as all other AVRs >7 years old..

IMHO..

You should put the $ toward a later AVR..

Just my $0.02...
