HK AVR 630 question

502 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  M Code
First, hi all, first post here.

My wife allowed one of our neighbors to mess with our amp while I wasn't home. Now, when you try to watch a dvd, you get the dvd picture and sound is from the cable box. I can switch it around and get the dvd sound, but then the video will be something from the cable.

I used to be ok at this stuff years ago but am rather out of tune with the latest (relatively) amps and what not so I feel like a stooge trying to figure this out.

Anyone have any thoughts on what could be up?

Many thanks for any help!!!

Somebody... ;)

Switched the digital port assignment..

When the DVD video input is selected check which digital port is assigned.. Normal default is Coax 1.. Most likely it has been changed to something else

Switch with the digital port assigned for the Cable box input..

To switch digital ports..

Press Digital Select button on the remote control

Next toggle up/down to desired port

Press Set

Now do the same for the Cable box input

I know, it doesn't look good for 'who' did this.....wish I had a better story :D . I might need you to dummy it down slightly more. I attached a pic (bad albeit) of my remote. I don't see one marked digital select. Also, which port would be standard for the cable box input vs. the DVD.

MANY thanx!!!

.......ooops, it won't allow me to post a pic until I have 5 posts. If you aren't familiar with the remote, I can burn up 5 posts real quick and then post it but I don't want to bother anyone here with it if no need.

Boy this going to cost you... :D

Take your remote with the LCD readout

Go down below the numbers to the top larger circle pad with arrows..

OK now see the lower left button by the pad.. Marked "Digital"

That is the Digital select..

The Set is just below this..

The default for the AVR 630 is Coax 1 to DVD

Beyond that there are no so called standard defaults for digital ports (user must assign) as there a wide variety of components that can be connected. Ok here is

How to set this for DVD

First turn off the cable box.

Now load a DVD and start it in Play

Switch the 630 to DVD, now you should see the DVD video on the screen but the L & R letters inside the speaker boxes are flashing

Press Digital

Use the up/down buttons to switch through Coax 1, Coax 2, Coax 3, Optical 1, Optical 2, Optical 3 keep toggling until the letters stop flashing..

Press Set.. Now you should have digital audio sound..

Now you will have to do the same thing for the Cable Box input

Turn off the DVD

Go to the Cable Box input which is usually VID 3

Turn on the Cable Box, hopefully you have the cable picture

But no sound and the L & R letters inisde the speaker boxes are flashing.

Now do the same as you did for DVD..

Press Digital

Toggle until the letters stop flashing Press Set.

Now you should be OK..

M Code,

do you work for HK by chance?

one question on the 635, are any of the amps bridgeable? Thanks
Man, you are good!!

I have the sound all squared away, but the picture is reversed.

On DVD, I hear it but see Cable. On Vid 3 I hear it but see DVD.

Maybe if a slam a couple drinks it will all seem right... :D

I can't thank you enough for the help!!

WOndering if any of the gurus out there have any idea as to why the sound would be correct (dvd sound when dvd is selected) but the video would be cable, and vise versa?

TIA!!!
I am not going to give out any more info until you pay the 1st PayPal invoice.... j/k... :D :)

To fix the video issue go into the OSD..

I think the page is titled is Video Setup..

There you will find each input go down a few rows to Component Video assigment, change these accordingly..

Not seeing your setup but most likely..

For DVD source set it to DVD, it likely is set to Component Video 1...

Should be set to DVD, and for VID 3 it likely should be Component Video 1....

Sound like these are reversed, not no cables changes are needed just software menu assignment..
