The 7200 is rated 100x7 @8 ohms but I have been told time and time again it can handle a 4 ohm load just fine. I read it was rated at 142x5 at 4ohms by some large magazine and was wondering if you run less channels, do you get more power? I'm going to be running Polk LSis off it. 2 15s, 2 9s, and the center channel. Say I wanted to do 3-channel stereo mode. Would that give me more power to the 3 than it would to the five? I think they all share the same power supply so this would make sense to me. I'm not big on "surround" music listening but I would like to utilize all 3 front speakers. Heck, if that was the way it worked, I'm sure it could do 175x3 @ 4 ohms. I just can't make up my mind to buy the 7200 for $1000 shipped new or the Outlaw 950/7100 combo for $1675.

THANKS!

Your assumption is correct...

The 7200 actually measured over 340 Watts into 1 channel

Wow. That sounds promising. I keep telling myself to just purchase the 7200 and if I'm not happy with it, suffer a hundred bucks or so loss on Ebay and get the Outlaw package.

The test was done by Sound and Vision magazine. Actually, that was 142 watts into 5 channels at 8 Ohms - not 4.

I'm not sure what the Outlaw pre/pro is like, but I will tell you that the AVR-7200 is really sweet. It's still on the floor in my family room until I "revise" my cabinet to handle the 60+ Lbs. of weight this beast packs. It's such a joy to listen to ... nothing but beautiful music and wonderful HT performance. :)

Certainly, one of the best purchases in audio that I've ever made.
